Set Up Streaming Profiles for Your Kids
Attention, parents: Today’s streaming apps all offer ways to ensure your kids are only seeing content that’s appropriate for them. Here’s how to create a dedicated kids’ profile in each:
Disney+
Tap the profile menu at the bottom of the screen > Edit Profiles > Add Profile, then switch on Kids Profile. You can also turn this switch on for existing profiles.
HBO Max
Tap the profile icon in the app’s menu bar > Switch Profiles, then create a new account by tapping Add Kid. You’ll need to set a PIN, which will prevent your child from switching to an adult profile. HBO Max makes age-appropriate selections based on the birthday you enter for a kid’s profile, but you can override those and choose what content ratings your child can access.
Hulu
Tap Profile, select your name to open the Profiles page, tap New Profile, then switch on the Kids option.
Netflix
Create a new profile and switch on For Kids. This will show only titles rated TV-PG and below. To restrict content specifically for little kids or older kids, go to Manage Profiles on Netflix’s website.
Paramount+
To create a kids’ profile, open the app—you’ll immediately be brought to a “Who’s Watching?” screen. Tap Add Profile and toggle on Kids Mode. You’ll then see an option to set limitations for either “Younger Kids” or “Older Kids.” You can always go back and update these settings later; adjust settings on existing profiles by tapping “Edit Profiles” at the top right of the screen.
Amazon Prime Video
Go to My Stuff > Settings (tap the gear icon) > Parental Controls > Viewing Restrictions. Here you can set age restrictions (General, Family, Teen) and apply them to specific devices.
Apple TV
The Apple TV app honors the restrictions you’ve set on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. To establish limits, go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions.
For kids only!
Some apps don’t require a dedicated space for children, because everything they offer is family-friendly! Kids can safely explore all the apps below.
