Ecosia is the tech company that puts the ability to do good into the hands of internet users. When you use Ecosia to browse the web, your searches are helping to plant trees and reverse the effects of climate change.

*** How it works

Like other search engines, Ecosia makes money from search ads. The big difference is, Ecosia uses its profits to plant trees, where nature and people need them most. The Ecosia community is planting millions of trees every month across the world’s most threatened biodiversity hotspots, simply by searching the web. The more people that use Ecosia, the more trees we can plant, it’s that easy! So what are you waiting for?

***Privacy, not just promises

We're interested in trees, not your data: we don’t save your searches, we don’t track the websites you visit, we don’t sell your data to advertisers, and your searches are always SSL-encrypted.

***CO2 positive

CO2 neutral is not enough. Thanks to our own solar plant powering our servers on 100% renewable energy, and the Ecosia forests around the world, each of your searches removes around 1 kg of CO2 from the atmosphere.

***Radical transparency

Trust has to be earned. That’s why we publish our monthly financial reports and tree-planting receipts on our website. We also signed a legal contract that requires us to stay true to our not-for-profit cause, forever.

Download the Ecosia app today. The world will be better for it.

My FAVORITE Search Engine

Ah, good ol' Ecosia. I have had it as my default search engine on my laptop for over a year now, and it works absolutely just as well as any other search engine I've ever had. This is a legit organization, and they have very inspiring updates about the progress they make planting trees in the areas around the world that need it most. They are totally transparent about everything they do, all of their financial and social accountability info is easily available on their website. I couldn't recommended this app more highly-- everyone I know has switched from regular google or bing (even DuckDuckGo) to Ecosia, and it makes me feel way less guilty when I'm bumming around all day on the internet and I find out that at the end of the day, all my usual internet frittering has led to me being able to help these hardworking Ecosia associates realize their goals of planting trees♥️ also, I've never experienced any technical problems with this search engine, ever 🤗

Almost good enough

This app is pretty good tbh. I’ve downloaded it a few times to try to help the environment, but I always end up deleting it and this time I downloaded it, but it was starting to look pretty good. At least much better then how I remembered it. Honestly it doesn’t rly refresh well at all and doesn’t seem that fun to use like google. It looks kinda boring to use, like the first bit is fine with the search tab and all but then when u actually press search it all goes down hill and kinda looks ugly cause it has like kinda like yahoo instead of looking like google or bing which look and work a lot better. I rly like how it looks a tad like google , but sadly it also looks like google and yahoo had a baby and a discombobulated version of all both of them came out. I would rly like this app more if it could refresh better and if it could look better. I wish it looked more like google or at least bing when I’m checking the websites I want to choose from and stuff but the main search page is perfect. I just think that it would be awesome if they could make it more pleasant looking when im looking at the links and stuff, u know that page the one the search engine shows u to after u search something so u can choose the website u wanted. That’s what I want made better. I’m so close to making this my main engine instead of google. SO close. If it were to fix those things I would switch to this app instead.

Love the idea, not the execution

I love the idea of being able to plant trees with simple searches from my phone, however the actual execution could use some work. I’m not fond of the app itself, it keeps somehow losing the pages I last loaded when I go back into the app after being in a different one. Or it doesn’t update the page. As in, I read from my phone, and I’ll be in several chapters then leave the app because someone messaged me, then when I come back it has me several chapters behind. I then have to find which chapter I was on and scroll through to get to where I left off. In that sense the app itself is impractical. It also doesn’t allow separate tabs to be just that - separate. It has tab options but when you leave the new tab to go back to an older one, you can’t go back a page from the original tab, it portals you to the new tab. For research purposes this is unbearably frustrating. It would help if they could fix these things and make it run like a normal search engine, or have a way to add Ecosia as the default browser in safari. Because I would love to see this work, but at the moment it just doesn’t do it for me.
