2024: app is continually amazing. I recommend it wholeheartedly.2022: Highlighted is THE elegant app I always hoped someone would originate—to digitally highlight physical books. eBook quotes and passages can be sent to Highlighted via a Shortcuts app shortcut—as long as either “copy” (or) the iOS share-sheet can be invoked within an eReader. (Apps like Libby will not work, but Apple’s Books app will work.) Accurate OCR (text recognition) is the principal star of Highlighted, making it incredibly easy to save passages of interest. Entries are then globally searchable and easy to export. Artifacts of poorly captured OCR itself are rare. And when aberrations occur it is simple things I’ve seen with almost any OCR capture app. Highlighted seems to work best when you capture text passages in succession, like long paragraphs, rather than whole pages at once. And if you capture text where fragments of text (or sentences) are misplaced, a steady hand and a very clean capture window fixes that tendency. Highlighted is a beautifully designed app, making for a fantastic reading companion. It also supports several languages, with more on the way. And built in ISBN scanning makes it incredibly easy to add new books. Updates are frequent, well considered, and reflect a hard working and thoughtful developer, who's really hitting his stride. Super impressed. All I need now is a tip jar. 2024: app is continually amazing. I recommend it wholeheartedly.
