My entire family loves this app. We can control our homes from anywhere in the world, and easily switch between them. I love that I can create powerful scenes to make things magically happen based on time of day or any device within the home, such as a light or TV turning on.

Josh was cool 4 years ago. It has not kept up with the latest AI capabilities. It can’t create scenes from a chat based on your habits or even all the lights it knows about in one room. It’s natural language processing fails to recognize simple commands and often asks for clarification. For example, it has zero memory and can’t tell that a device might be called different things by different people in the house. Lately, the app completely fails to load my home. It opens fine but just sits there and none of my devices, rooms or anything show up. You’re better off standing up Home Assistant and attaching an MCP connected to your favorite AI provider like Claude. With real AI closed systems like Josh are dying. I no longer need the expertise of an integrator. That requirement is now just a way to keep the system proprietary and locked in because I can’t use it with anything else.
