Permissions needed for RightTrack users
RightTrack uses foreground services to enhance user safety, ensure accurate trip recording, and provide valuable feedback to the user regarding their driving behavior. It's essential for detecting when you start a drive and to accurately log the route taken, driving behavior, and other relevant metrics.
The service is activated when you begin driving. This is detected through user interaction with the app and/or automatic detection algorithms that recognize driving activity.
RightTrack collects data such as speed, acceleration, braking, and route information, which are needed for assessing driving behavior and providing feedback for safer driving practices.
I received a notification concerning our insurance policy including the contracts detailing our partnership with safeco. I logged on and was directed to change the password. I followed the simple instructions and perfected that task. I was also advised to download the app. I’m getting my arms around it. So far ive been able to peruse the documents without glitches. I’m going to take this opportunity to drill down and familiarize myself with the details. I’n looking forward gain command of the coverage that I’m paying and determining if any adjustments are needed. I’d like to laud safeco for your fine service accommodating our insurance requirements on our home and numerous vehicles. You’ve always been there for us. I’m mindful of that reality and sincerely grateful that you welcomed us into your fold and have faithfully stood by us all of these years. For that we’re grateful and we you a tremendous debt of gratitude. I pray that our association and business bond continues through perpetuity. Not a great app

For the insurance part, it’s fine. For the “right track” driving portion, it’s absolutely horrible. First, the hard breaking is ridiculous. My wife had to stop for a deer and her driver’s score dropped. I guess SafeCo would rather her hit the deer? It also flagged me for hard braking at a stop sign when I didn’t. I think it’s looking for reasons to lower the score so that the discount they provide is lower. Secondly, the hard acceleration is highly inaccurate. Good luck getting onto a 70mph highway and not get flagged for hard acceleration. One exit that I use has a very short on ramp that requires you to accelerate quickly to get up to highway speed. According to this app, that’s bad thing that will negatively affect your score. SafeCo wants you to get onto the highway at unsafe low speeds. Another thing is that the app misses trips. I checked the FAQ and it’s apparently common to miss “short” trips but it has missed a ten minute trip for me and it also misses partial trips. On multiple trips, it shows me starting my drive 1/3 or even 1/2 through the trip. Lastly, the maps are not accurate. While my GPS is accurate on my phone, the app is not. It shows me starting or driving down one road when I was actually on a different road. Overall, the accuracy is not good for its intended purpose. Thankfully, my good driving keeps my score up but I have to be careful which ramp I take to get onto the highway and I have to start slowing down to a stop sign about 1/4 mile away.
Right Track is seriously flawed
Riskxpert
Right Track purports to evaluate your driving. Its algorithm requires your precise location. Right Track does not function unless you give it this permission. One would think, therefore, that Right Track would know when you were on an actual road as opposed to, for example, a mountain trail, a ski run, or a body of water. I found out the hard way that it doesn’t. My Right Track “evaluation” includes skiing, running downhill and boating. I admit that I’ve had to make some sudden stops while on skiis but I think it’s rather unfair that this should affect my auto insurance premium. The algorithm furthermore does not know if you are on a curvey pot-holed road or a freeway. It does not know if you are driving with snow or ice on the road or a clean dry surface. It does not know if you are in rush hour traffic or an open highway. It does not know if you’ve been caught in a sudden deluge of rain or an unexpected gust of wind. It doesn’t even know if you are traveling uphill, downhill or level. How can Safeco can know the quality of your driving without knowing the conditions under which you are driving. In fact, it doesn’t even know if you are driving, skiing, running or boating.
Right Track is woefully inaccurate

Avoid using. The app uses GPS data to track acceleration and braking. Insurance rates aren’t determined by your actual driving record, but rather by isolated data points that don’t account for road conditions, amount of traffic, or the fact that as a driver much of what you do is in response to other drivers’ actions. To make matters worse, the app consistently records hard braking or rapid acceleration when no such thing has occurred. It definitely does not measure whether or not you are a “safe driver.” It doesn’t even accurately measure the level of risk of risk that the company is taking on when they insure you. For example, if someone runs stop lights, that’s totally fine, just so long as they brake incredibly gently. If someone stops abruptly in front of you or cuts into your lane, then your score takes a significant hit because you responded appropriately. And there’s no way to raise your score. Once your score drops a percentage point, no amount of “good” driving will raise it, you’ve merely lowered the ceiling on your score, which will be used as justification to raise rates in the future.
Big update! Safeco is now Liberty Mutual. Safeco customers can use the Liberty Mutual app and sign in with their existing Safeco login credentials.
