Wow. Not sure what they were thinking. They launched a standalone app, which isn’t what people want and requires access of the phone, and did not register it to wallet.You’d think we’d get some competency here for all that we spend in tax dollars instead of the cheapest load of garbage they can toss at us. Gotta wonder who designed the RFP and why. I’m not gonna bash the developer as this is not necessarily their fault. In fact this would’ve been probably very useful when the iPhone 4 came out but it is absolutely not what most constituents want, no one knows about it with good reason and it’s obviously there in the reviews for good reason.It’s worth having…possibly…but NYS should pony up whatever Google and Apple want which can’t be too much considering small businesses can do it as well as large businesses. It’s just more evidence of bad priorities and perhaps bloated procurement. In 2024 it’s really odd they come up with this and tell us it’s cutting edge security.

Not sure if they’ve made recent updates to the app but this was my first time trying it. I completed the entire process in less than 5 minutes. Set up a pin and enabled Face ID. Was verified immediately after process was completed. Camera is a bit sensitive when facial scanning but nothing to get annoyed with. Keep still and look at the camera and keep face in the oval. Note, after researching this, Apple Wallet is not enabled because the STATE laws do not allow for it and why this app was made instead. Some states that do allow this for example are Ohio, Maryland or Utah. NY, NJ and CT do not allow for this convenience and you must go through their proprietary apps and verification methods.Some things to know about my personal situation:- I have a real ID drivers license- Used iPhone 17 Pro- On WiFi at home- Not charging- All permissions allowed when signing up for the app.I suggest others from the past to try again. I too a risk downloading it only because I’ve lost my ID so many times and this really is so helpful as a backup. Glad I did and was super surprised how the experience I had was very smooth and problem free.

Okay I attempted to install on iPhone 16e running iOS 18.5, App version 18.4.2. It looked like it installed. I tried opening it. All I got was splash screen for .5 seconds. Then the app crashed and closed. I contacted the software developer. They told me to uninstall, turn off WiFi, and reinstall. Then reboot the phone. I did that and had the same result. Splash screen for .5 seconds and crash/exit. Contacted developer again. They said this is a new problem that needs to be fixed. Funny thing, they took all the information and then disconnected from chat. I guess it is a known problem now on the iPhone 16e and they will fix it when they fix it. I’m not going to get my hopes up. We will see what they come up with.

I wanted to give this a try for times where I leave my wallet at home and might still need to show my ID. I was able to enroll successfully once, but after a migration to a new phone, the app would immediately crash upon opening. The only way to resolve this was to uninstall the application. Upon reinstalling the application the only option I had was to try to enroll again. Initially, it seemed like it was working, but it let me tap past adding a pin and invalidated the enrollment session. Upon trying to enroll yet again it failed. I think it’s time to give up on this experiment. It’s unclear what New York has against using Apple wallet but anything has to be better than this.
