Simple and impressive, but not for every lawn

In my front lawn, there’s a big tree and therefore no good place to mount Oto; with a single stream, weird shapes are not a problem but if there’s a tree in the way this is not an ideal solution vs. irrigation system. My back lawn didn’t have that problem and by mounting it on the side of a shed, 2 feet off the ground I was able to get almost 40 ft of range from it. The accuracy seems to decline as the distance increases. Obviously the “spread” of water is wider at a distance, but also it seems to overshoot the points a bit. I will tinker with them but am hesitant to use the solutions with it when I’m not sure the right fertilizer will end up in the right place. As a sprinkler, it’s expensive but will save me a lot of time and hassle.App itself is simple and straightforward- barebones but it does what you need with a lot less complexity than RainPoint or Orbit. Well done guys by focusing on basics.

Good product, bare bones app

The product is a great addition to the watering capabilities. It’s basically someone standing with a hose and pointing it around your yard, but programmed. That said, it is very basic compared to most watering systems. You can only water once a day, which is … strange. There is no history or water usage details. You can’t check and see if your stuff got watered. The manual watering is problematic. It’s seems like, to save battery, the system only check in every 5 minutes. That’s fine. But, I’ve plugged mine in, and that doesn’t seem to change anything. More importantly, the UX doesn’t provide any useful feedback. I want my dad to get one, but I can’t do a problem free demo. The app, at a minimum, needs history and more details on the manual watering. It needs to say when it has registered with the cloud, and when it is waiting on the base station. The spinning thing often takes more than 5 minutes to work. Today, I went out and pressed the button (which isn’t even a button) and it still never came on…. Or maybe it did, but didn’t say anything. No history, so I don’t know.

The Oto app is arguably better than many 'smart' irrigation competitors. (An industry locked in the past).Creating zones and schedules is simple - The intelligence seems largely focused in the automated watering system itself, which calculates how and where to send the stream.The watering planning in the app could be much improved by adding more information to inform the user what may be recommended. Imagine if you could set plant types for the zones, where the app would calculate recommended watering rates based on your regional zone and weather. (Rather than the simplistic water/don't water based on rain or wind)That said, the app is smooth and functional. The ability to set up zones is really nifty and EASILY justifies the cost of this unit versus antiquated competitors. Seriously, this single unit covers 10 different watering zones each of which would require 2-10 sprinkler heads and far too much digging.However, the main lack with this app is information relevant to the system: How much water has been used, what is the inlet pressure (esp how that may fluctuate during runs), gpm, runtime, etc. For a self-contained smart system costing nearly $500, it's missing a number of capabilities that seem worth that price point. Do I need 0.000 accuracy? Naw, but give me a rough total gallons report and usage history so I can monitor the system over seasons/years at least.Overall, would buy again. Wish it had a bit more 'intelligence' but at least it outperforms the competition by a mile.

I love that I can control multiple houses from wherever I am. This makes taking care of my mom’s house so much easier than having to maintain drip lines. Also, my dog kept eating my drip lines, so this has saved me a lot of she’d tears this year over plants dying. The app work good in terms of ease of setup, but I wish it stored schedules under the zones as a multi to one relationship because to make an AM/PM schedule I have to clone the existing zone, making 2 zones for every one in my yard. This leads to my second issue which is that I can’t order the zones to make it easy to either sort by name or time. This sounds small but once you get 4 zones, which becomes 8, the maintenance to make adjustments to one area becomes clunky both because I have to do it twice and also because I have to visually search to figure out where the mate is. It doesn’t sort by name, time, or create date, it’s random and I can’t change it.
