“one sec” uses Shortcuts Automation to toggle a deep breath animation whenever you open one of the configured apps (Instagram, Twitter, YouTube…). This breaks unconcious social media habits and even helps long-term by adding more friction when opening these apps.

Mindfulness is a state of active, open attention on the present: Did you really want to open Instagram? Or was it just because you're bored waiting for your bus?
This app helps you to reflect your actions, thoughts, and feelings; disrupting harmful social media habits with mindfulness.

On top of that, “one sec” also contributes your mindful moments to the Health App via HealthKit.

What’s New

Version 2.0

After one year of developing one sec and one thousand 5 star ratings, here‘s one sec 2.0!

From now on, one sec is going to be free! But don't worry—all existing users and early adopters are gonna keep full access to all existing functionalities. Nothing‘s gonna change here.
On top of that, I am adding new functionalities with every update that are a lot of work from my side and will be part of one sec Pro. If you like the app, and the app has a positive impact on your phone usage, please consider subscribing to support the further development of the app and to get access to those new features.

This update also adds an additional alternative exercise: Follow the dot.
And to top it off, you can now select from a series of alternative app icons.

I needed a way to stop the mindless social media check that was better than the built in locking features on iPhone or any other app. It’s brilliant because instead of trying to force you to not go on the apps, which makes me rebel just because I can, it instead makes you really think about WHY you’re doing it. And it makes it easier (big button, no need to add a reason) to decide not to go on than to go on. Now if I’m going on a distracting social media app I have to be intentional about it. Not only that, but if I close and try to reopen, i have to do the exercise all over again. My screen time is down 40% since I started using the app and I am so thankful for it!

10/10 Gets the job done + is super annoying

I invested in this 1$ app to see if it would be better than “screen time” and it is amazing.
It’s so much more annoying and the haptic + breath really drives you away from that “quick” social media check. Thanks for making such an annoying but helpful app :)

Also, would love the ability to use with more apps, there a few other habits I need to break!

Honest opinion

4.5/5 stars (so far!)
I saw this in a retweet on Twitter (ironically xD ). I thought the idea was really cool and I just tried it out. One thing that could be fixed- in the breathing animation, I don’t like the way it creates vibrations, as the changing rate gives quite an unpleasant experience when trying to calm down with a deep breath. Also, the continue breathing option should have a counter for every deep breath, as the never-ending breaths feels strange and unnatural. Will update review(or write a new one idk how this works) with any updates that happen :)

Hey Christina! Thanks a lot for your feedback; I’ve added a new option in update 1.0.3 which lets you change or disable the Haptic Feedback. You can find it in Settings (top left corner on the main page). I hope this helps you to be more relaxed during breathing 😬
I am not quite sure if I fully understand your other points…could you maybe send me an email to so we can figure this out?

Thanks again for your feedback and have a. Ice day!
