Back in the summer of 2024, I was on a hiking trail with a friend and his brothers, he made the horrible choice to drink so he became drunk becoming unreliable I had to lead the hike, the hike bled into the night, on our way back we ran out of water and food because I was the only one who brought any and gave it to my friends 2 brothers, and I eventually became physically exhausted with no food or water to keep me going I fell to the ground and could not bare to stand anymore, I some how mustered the strength to continue, we kept going but because of my weakened pace and no supplies which I gave it to his unprepared siblings I could not keep going, eventually we split up because we reached a rope section after I got up it I knew if I sat down to wait for the others I wouldnt get back up so in the hunger, thirst and barley viable vision I continued with one of his brothers leading me, he took me a mile off trail, lost and no supplies at 12am in the hot desert with a phone at 10% with no signal I was about to give up, the Apple GPS couldnt locate me for some reason so I could not find a way back to the trail, luckily the very app the drained my battery, saved me from possibly dying of heat exhaustion, hunger and dehydration, it knew where I was on the map, because of that I was able to lead myself and this 12 year old kid back to the car and his brothers which had passed us up and called the rangers. I threw up 7 times that day, even a milligram of water couldn’t stay down. All this to say 10/10 this app literally saved my life but drains battery if left on in the background
Running “Progress” data lost / not backed up from iPhone upgrade to 11 pro Max

Two days ago I upgraded from iPhone 7 to iPhone 11 Pro Max. I had three versions of app on old phone (transferred to new phone. I mainly have been using Adidas Running to track running over summer (>50 miles some weeks) intermittently with Runtastic Pro to track walking in same exercise session (may run 4 mi using Running App, the pause to walk one mile using Runtastic Pro, then pause and resume Adidas Running...then repeat. Also had Road Bike app which I rarely used because didn’t have auto pause but hadn’t deleted. I have been a faithful user of Runtastic apps since 2012. When I transferred apps & data from the iPhone 7 to iPhone 11 and activated latter—ALL OF MY RECENT RUNNING & WALKING DATA FROM RUNTASTIC PRO & ADIDAS RUNNING WERE DELETED. Their customer support asked me if I had been using the bike app. I confirmed I had it on my old & new phones - but hadn’t used it recently at all.They said Adidas no longer supported that app and my data were not backed up. This seems crazy - because they’re saying the bike app non support issue OVERRODE THE ADIDAS RUNNING & RUNTASTIC PRO saved progress data. Makes no sense to me and bad software | app management as far as I’m concerned. May still use running app for a while but considering leaving Adidas. So disappointed. I had upped my running to > 50 miles a week over the summer. A big deal for me because I’m 67 years old. This was my favorite running app bar none for years. I paid for the premium membership back when I hardly had two nickels to rub together because it had so many great features.But it seems with the updates and things shifting around they’ve gotten rid of some of my old favorite features that I used to use to help monitor progress, like only showing one total average pace per session. I used to love after my session seeing all the information and details and especially seeing my fastest and slowest paces per mile through the session. When I finished my session today after not having used the app for a while, I was shocked at what little information was provided at the end compared to what used to be given. I searched all over the app looking for more info before realizing it’d been gutted. Really a bummer, because I’ve loved this app so much and it’ll be tough to try to adjust to another one. It’s probably still great for those who want a streamlined experience or who didn’t come to love what we used to have, so have nothing to compare it to, but I think it’ll be the first year I cancel my premium subscription since starting it years ago.

Update: after the most recent update, the voice alerts during runs either don't work or became too soft (even with phone on maximum volume) so they cannot be heard. I can no longer tell when I have completed half the run and need to turn around. I checked the help section in the app but the search field it opens in the browser doesn't work either (I can type in the search terms but clicking "Done" or the magnifying glass does nothing). I guess I shouldn't use automatic updates on this app.Old review :I have only used it for a few weeks and likely only basic features compared to others, but it has been fantastic so far. A really nice feature it has that my previous app did not is to set a workout goal, in duration, distance, or other, and during the workout it will let you know when you are halfway done (very useful during a run so I know when to turn around). It also tells you the pace periodically. It download the map when I have access to internet and the app works when I lose wifi during a run. I haven't looked at the history data yet but so far it has everything I was looking for
