Wasn’t sure what to think when our previous bank branch was bought by Huntington Bank since I hadn’t heard of them before then. I’m so glad I became a Huntington customer for a variety of reasons. They offer a 24 hour grace period if you overdraw on an account when you have money in another Huntington account to cover it, I have a checking account that draws interest, they’ll reverse fees on up to 5 uses of an Huntington ATM card outside their network per month. Their online banking system is user friendly and solid and their iPhone application is about as good as it gets. The application allows you to customize notification alerts and makes performing virtually all common bank transactions super easy including check deposits, account transfers (even between Huntington Bank and an outside bank) and even allows facial recognition to log in if you wish. The people I’ve spoken face-to-face to in the local branch are always friendly and helpful. There have been times I incurred a fee that I deserved and I haven’t questioned the few times that has happened. However the fees I had reasonable need to question were reversed without having to jump through hoops to do so. In short, they treat you like a customer and like a family member or friend. They are continually improving their service, their phone application and their online experience. I can’t recommend them enough.

I’m only giving it 5 stars so it gets seen. Decided to open an account for the perks and sign up bonus. Prior to switching my direct deposit I expressed how important it was to continue receiving my SSDI deposit two days early in order to prevent missing payment dates that potentially led to past due payment fees. I’ve been receiving my benefits on 28-29 of the month for years and I was repeatedly told there wouldn’t be any delays. I even addressed the terms stated in the fine print and was told I didn’t need to worry. That all changed when the time came and the SSA posted the deposit. I was originally told no deposit was made and to contact the SSA, after found so I was told the deposit had in fact been made and I needed to contact Huntington again. It took three separate calls to finally confirm they had received the deposit but a hold had been placed because I did not meet the early pay requirements. Id explained what I was initially told and also the detriment I faced due to being unable to access medical necessities. They had no consideration and completely disregarded my concerns and told me to explore options for community resources to get help instead. Now I understand why they’re being forced to close branches in order to cut expenses.
Direct deposits and Early Pay

Transferring direct deposits to a new bank account, especially Social Security, can take 2-3 months depending on date of request. The Early Pay benefit can take an additional two months to kick in. I experienced the same situation when I opened a new account. I also went through it again when I had to set up a new account when my purse was stolen and required closing of my current account. I have found that I always refer to the written terms and conditions instead of what an agent may tell me. I believe that they don’t intentionally provide the incorrect information and they do know what is correct. I think it’s a matter of not understanding what you’re asking due to not carefully listening or not being more direct in their answer. Overall, I have been very satisfied with Huntington Bank’s services. Yes, there have been glitches, but I’ve also understood the reasons when referring to the written terms and conditions. I don’t necessarily like it, but policies always trump what a human may tell you. It doesn’t mean the bank is disreputable or provides poor services. Financial institutions are extremely complicated!!
Kind of a huge pain.

Over paid your credit card / credit line? Congrats, you don’t get that money back. That now is owned by the bank until they decide you can have your money back. Zero option even while talking to customer service asking for my over payment back. But I’m not allowed to, the bank now owns money I worked for?? Didn’t realize we all opened accounts with a company who just decides your money is now theirs? But that’s banks for you I guess. For a good solid few hours of the day you cannot check your account at all. So good luck having a night out & being unable to check your balance. Same with constant issues regarding the app. Getting deposits late, constant notifications when trying to log in that they’re yet again working on the 18th issue of the day. I don’t expect everything to be perfect. It’s unrealistic and not something that’s obtainable. I just have an expectation I can access my money and know it’s safe. That’s it. It’s kinda hit a point where I’m going to have to take the near 100$ loss of overpayment on a credit line & open with a local credit union and completely avoid Huntington. It’s been like pulling teeth, can’t forget the time it took me 2 months to get a new card and they kept charging me even though I never got the card. It feels unnecessarily complicated. I’m down almost a 100$ and kinda fed up, but I guess I’ve learned to take my business elsewhere.
