I have yet to get a credit card due to outside factors, but even on a debit card Star One has been great at monitoring my purchases and contacting me when they think there has been a fraudulent one. So far it has only ever been myself buying from an overseas retailer or something, but it is great peace of mind to know that they can notice and respond to suspicious activity so quickly. It’s also very easy to confirm/deny charges, as they automatically put the transaction on hold and freeze the card once something of that sort happens, and I get a call to see if I want to unfreeze it. Even if I miss the call, I can deal with it in the app very quickly. Overall, a great experience with Star One, as it seems that even though I only have a debit card (which is considered less safe) my money is still very much in good hands.

I have been using Star Ine for nearly 25 years having transferred my banking from BofA. Service is great almost feel like a boutique bank what looks out for you. I’ve referred many people to Star One I have all my mortgages (3) with them except for one. Their underwriter needs to be better educated and not be paper pushers snd ignorant with retirees who are asset rich but have no monthly income from payers. The entire mortgage department really needs to be more in touch with the world of lending. This I mean the spectrum from he loan processing clerks all the way to the underwriters and the department head. I’ll go into details if you contact me privately. To be fair, the mortgage rates have always be fair and competitive. Star one has a mortgage feature that’s fairly unique in that you can modify an exiting loan without needing to go thru a complete refi. It also has a 5/5 Adjustable loan program that’s not found elsewhere. I do love this financial institution except for the ineffective mortgage lending underwriters when you don’t have a 1099. ( imagine how horrified I was when I learned that your underwriter does not count Roth IRA as your income producing asset because it’s not reported on your tax return. Or know how to read a 1099Div. And a few others) Star one loses out when you cannot make money from your lending due to your underwriters ineptness. It strikes me as ageism or elder discrimination.

I have been with a few different CUs and switched to Star One many years ago as the interest rates are the best. Definitely won’t go back to banks. I moved to a smaller city and can do majority of my banking through the mobile app. I use a network of other CU atms for cash withdrawals without fees. The app is easy to use, efficient and even includes Zelle for money transfers. I love that I can make sub savings accounts to separate savings for taxes, vacation, home improvements etc. All my accounts receive the same high interest rates including checking. Their VISA cc has low interest rates and high rewards paid. Love Star One!!

My dad set me up with a star one account when I was a kid. It served as a savings account for years until I finally got fed up with Wells Fargo’s banking fees and all their nonsense. Since then I’ve been using star one and CEFCU as my main banks and I’m equally pleased with both. Star one tends to be very conservative with cards and loans (which I appreciate). It tells me they aren’t going to have any problems with my funds. CEFCU is a little more flexible so I get most of my loans through them. Either way, I’ll definitely never go back to a “bank”. Credit unions all the way, StarOne in the front of that.
