Chrome River is the best and easiest invoicing system I’ve ever used. I can’t wait until my company changes systems again the day after I finally figure everything out. I will probably leave a review for that invoicing system but I will probably call it Emburse or something catchy like that

Emburse does the basics. It will let you take photos of your receipts and submit an expense report. In the same way a flip phone will let you access the internet.Our company recently switched from Concur, and it’s a downgrade for users. The interface looks like it was designed by engineers who've never met a UX designer. Everything feels like it was built to function, not to be used by actual humans who are trying to submit expenses in the back of a Lyft between the airport and the hotel.Three things that drive me up the wall:1. Concur lets you select text directly from a receipt photo — copy a ticket number, paste it into the field, done. Emburse? You get to stare at the receipt on one half of your screen and retype the ticket number like it's 2020.2. Concur lets you set a business justification at the report level and pre-populates it across every expense. Emburse makes you type the same justification over and over, expense by expense, like you're writing lines on a chalkboard. "I will not forget my business justification. I will not forget my business justification."3. When you have multiple receipts to upload from your photos, you have to do them one by one or it automatically merges the photos into a single multi-page receipt. Because apparently, dinner and train tickets are the same expense now.The bones are there. The data gets where it needs to go. But the user experience? If you're evaluating expense tools: Emburse will get the job done, just in a way that makes the user work much harder than they need to.

I was moved to Emburse Enterprise from another platform that my company has used for years, and it has been a significant downgrade in nearly every way. Tasks that used to take me 15 minutes now take over an hour, and I am far from alone. This is not just the learning curve of a new tool. These are basic, repeatable problems.A few specifics:Itemization is painful. Hotel and rental car receipts that took one minute before now take ten, because the app makes you itemize every line separately by date instead of using a simple table.The receipt-scanning AI actually makes things worse. It compresses image quality and then invents details from the blur. On multi-page receipts like airline itineraries, it only reads the first page, so the real totals never get captured.The location field never fills in automatically, and the picker is broken. Search for a major city and you often get no results, and the list sometimes cuts off partway through the alphabet.It frequently shows an error when saving even though it saved, so you can never tell what state your report is in.Reimbursements are slower and less transparent than the tool it replaced.The interface feels like software from a decade ago. Every step is clunkier than what it replaced, and the AI adds errors instead of saving work. New tools have growing pains, but this feels like a product that was not properly tested against how people actually submit expenses before being rolled out. I hope real improvements come quickly. Emburse was not ready for prime time.

At first I was able to do my whole submission for reimbursement with the app just like I could online and like the App Store says I should be able to with the app. Now for some reason all I can do is scan the receipts, then I have to go online to finalize and submit. Now sure why the change and I even emailed support and they said the app updated, but I said ok, but the App Store says it’s supposed to be able to edit and submit expenses with the app.
Our latest release makes managing meal expenses easier while you’re on the go.
You can now add, search, select, and manage guests directly from meal receipts in your Wallet, before you even create an expense. Guest details stay with the receipt and carry forward to the meal expense, so it’s easier to include the right attendee information from the start and avoid returned reports and approval follow-up.
We’ve also made it easier to open a receipt right after capture, and you can now easily share feedback about your receipt capture experience.
This release also includes usability and stability improvements for a smoother experience.
