Important
‼ Use common sense when tuning and avoid over-tightening drumheads. Extreme tension may cause unstable readings or damage your drumheads.
It’s hit or miss with his app. Pretty disappointed that I spent 8 bucks on it honestly. Switching from resonant to batter head it lags and the hz reading is often wrong. It could definitely use a little revamping to make this a bit more user friendly. Maybe even add in some preset charts for tuning depending on what style kit you are using. What I mean by this is that, at least for me, I was unable to find a preset that matched my style kit. So although there are presets in the app, many times they aren’t helpful if it does not specifically match your set up. It would be nice if I could type in my exact style kit with all dimensions and the app would automatically produce ideal tones for the specific set up based on the style I am playing. Not sure if that makes sense to everyone. Kind of hard to explain. Lots and lots of potential but not quite there yet. Since I got a response I did edit this comment and added another star because editors respond and offer ways to help and because small bugs are being worked out. However, I have watched the videos provided and followed along with exactly what was described and yet still encounter the same problems when attempting to tune any of my drums. Not so much that it lags anymore now that I updated it but it still does a poor job recognizing pitches and moving you on to the next step. If you try and lock on to a specific tone the app doesn’t capture and will have you doing circles trying to find out why it won’t go to the correct preset hz. Kind of confusing to describe. Easier to just tune the good ole fashion way which unfortunately is exactly what I end up having to do anyway because this gets very time consuming. Also, You can not save any data relating to the brand of drums you have nor style heads. When i tried to put in my exact set up the app fails every time I got to the point of selecting my brand kit and then erases everything I had built up until then. You also can not download any of the additional packages for drum heads. When I try and do this it fails and shuts off completely.

UPDATE: Please update the app to 2.0.11. We have a new predefined kits section...Thanks for updating your review.Could you please contact us? It seems that you can't download expansion packs, that the app doesn't save your kit, etc and that you also experience lags when switching from reso to batter? This is not normal. This means your install is corrupted on your device. Fixing it is simple; 1) DELETE the app, 2) REBOOT your phone, 3) REDOWNLOAD the app from the appstore. 4) Done!
Works well once you know what you’re doing

Love all the customization. Entering your kit details is cool. I do wish when entering the fundamental for my kit that it would prompt to measure what it actually is instead of give me a keyboard. Hard to match up a piano sound to a real life drum... found this impossible to guess. I found that you can specify short sustain and it’ll compute res and batter differences. That’s awesome. Love the idea of preset kits. Haven’t had success yet, got my res and batter tuned but then the fundamental is off by 5hz or so.. not sure if that’s normal, wish the ui would guide me more there, maybe a (?) I could click on to learn more... really really wish there was a preview of how the presets sounds so that I even know if I’m doing it right. This app is hard for beginners it doesn’t lead/ teach you what to do, or the concepts. Sprinkle in some more (?) things to tap, explaining why a fundamental is different than res and batter, and how those combine, and how they reduce sustain, etc... but what the app is accomplishing is ambitious and exactly what I want. With more time spend on (?) help text, more info, previews, etc I think could really make it accessible for beginners too. Took me a while to understand the lock feature, was confusing to me maybe because it is hard to tell when it is on, apart from knowing I pressed it, and what that exactly means. This is an area that requires reading the manual which is buried someplace else. But I wish simply had a (?) next to it giving me the relevant details instead, it would be more intuitive and helpful to point me to a brief explaination and then more info to link me to the manual would work well.

Thank you for the thumbs up! Thank you very much too for having taken the time to share your in-deep feedback of your first-time user experience and for sharing your improvement suggestions! Very much appreciated! Some of the suggestions are yet incorporated in the upcoming version! With regards to the fundamental being a few Hz off-target when having tuned your batter and reso to the suggested values of the preset: this is normal. These suggested values for batter and reso tunings are estimates to get you as close as possible. They vary slightly from drum to drum and they may be OR may not be spot-on for your specific drum. > You can modify the suggested values as follows: first, tune your drum to the estimates which will bring you close to the target fundamental; Thereafter simply tweak batter head and/or reso head tuning slightly, until your fundamental is spot-on. Next input the tweaked values in your preset via the following path: MY DRUMS> PENCIL ICON OF YOUR PRESET > FUNDAMENTAL AND SUSTAIN TAB OF YOUR PRESET> PENCIL ICON UNDER SUGGESTED VALUES > PUT IN YOUR CUSTOM VALUES.... Here you can override the suggested values with your own values: you customize your preset's estimated values to the real values of your drum, so next time you can always tune to your real-life measured values and the fundamental will be spot-on in the future ! If further questions, please contact support@drumtunepro.com or write a PM on our FB-page for direct chat! Thank you kindly again for all input & feedback!Cheers & Enjoy Drumtune PRO!
Best way to tune my drums
Keikitc
Since using the Drumtune Pro app, my drums have sounded their absolute best. I can select pitches for each drum, even intervals, etc. plus store it all. I especially like the organizational functions for creating various tuning presets. I create my own, but you can download more options. I play Gretsch USA Customs, drums known for “That Great Gretsch Sound”. This app helps me get that sound I listen for. Once you learn how the program works, it becomes a more and more useful tool. It takes time to learn and understand what it does and why. It’s great when I change heads and need to re-tune to the same fundamental pitch. Fast.UPDATE from customer: Why drummers should jump on the Drumtune Pro app: I just bought a second set of Gretsch USA drums and used the Drumtune Pro to tune them up. I’ve used the app for many months, having discarded other tuners that weren’t nearly as useful. Having already learned how to effectively use the app (users must understand overtones), I was able to tune up the new kit in minutes! I used the same tonal settings as my other kit to compare the results. A perfect match! This app is as good as $100 tuners using similar technology and saving me 90% of the cost.

Thank you very much for the review, Keikitc! We are happy to hear the app comes in handy to make your drums sound at their best. It's a pleasure to hear that you create your own 'customized' tuning presets. (While the app offers built-in tuning suggestions as a reference point to get one started, the ultimate goal of the app is to be a useful tuning aid that assists drummers in exploring the sound potential of their drums.) While the app helps to keep track of pitches visually, a drummer can tweak the heads, listen to the effect & make tuning decisions based upon how the drum sound is affected. Once a good sound is found, the tuning you have created can be stored as lug pitches per head in a custom tuning preset, so it's easy to tune-up to that exact sound fast. It's nice to know that you use the app that way! Enjoy Drumtune PRO & Thanks again for the thumbs-up!
Drumtune PRO Review
Dave Weidenhoffer
This is one of the most excellent tools a drummer could come across, even if you are only getting to know your drums you will instantly learn the fundamental frequency range of each of your toms, as well as the correlating musical note(s), sound engineers love it when you walk in with a kit and can communicate like this (if they have the time, LOL). You can also send your resonant head frequencies to someone who may tune your kit b4 you get to where you are going. I sent one of my non-drummer friends some fundamental freqs to tune a kit he just purchased for his space, then told him to download the app and how to use it. The next day he sent a video of his kit sounding good enough for any drummer to play on it. -My only complaint is it wasn’t available when I was a kid….but neither were cell phones, LOL! Thanks for this!Dave Weidenhoffer
