Sterling is a restaurant discovery app built on public health inspection data. Every restaurant rating is grounded in real, dated inspections from official city health departments. The score is transparent, the data is traceable, and there are no paid placements.
WHY STERLING
Every other restaurant app shows you photos, star reviews, and ads. None of them tell you whether the kitchen is clean. Public health inspections do, but they are buried in city portals, written for inspectors, and almost impossible for a regular diner to read.
Sterling does three things:
1. Aggregates the public inspection records from every city we cover
2. Classifies violations against a shared taxonomy (pests, temperature, sanitation, handling) wherever cities publish itemized violations
3. Scores every restaurant on a transparent 0-100 scale where every point loss is traceable to a specific dated inspection
The score itself is deterministic. No AI decides a rating. AI helps with two narrow jobs: classifying raw violation text into categories and writing the plain-English summaries. You can verify any rating by tapping the breakdown.

DATA AND PRIVACY
Sterling does not require an account, email, or sign-in. All data we display is publicly published by city health departments. Your watchlist stays on your device. Your viewing history and home city sync privately through your own iCloud account; Sterling never sees them. We collect no personal information beyond standard Apple-provided crash and performance diagnostics.
