Description

Wake-up more naturally with your own wake-up light based on your smart HomeKit lights and improve your morning routine with Wake Up Light.

Are you tired in the morning? Does your body feel like it doesn't want to get up? Create an artificial dawn with Wake Up Light, so getting up in the morning feels easier and more natural. Built for use with HomeKit enabled lights, now it’s easy to add a wake-up light alarm to the Apple Home app.

Set a light alarm that starts your day before your desired wake up time (a recommended duration is something between 30 and 60 minutes). Your light brightens to the maximum intensity by the time you’ve set, by shifting from dim warm red, ending in bright and cold white after its light up duration. The brighter the light, the better the effect will be on your body. The goal is to put you into lighter sleep, so that you awake easier.

FEATURES

– Alarms that turn on lights and shift colors as they brighten
– Support for all HomeKit enabled lights
– The alarm is set in your Apple home hub (required)
– no need to keep your iPhone connected (or even on)
– Set the days Wake Up Light should wake you
– Shortcuts and Siri support to activate, reschedule and deactivate your alarms
– Create multiple wake-up lights and control multiple accessories per alarm
– Preview your wake-up light

Wake Up Light lets you easily create wake-up lights that fit your needs. Just select your light and preferred wake-up time and Wake Up Light will create HomeKit automations for you, turning your lights on gradually over time.

You can adjust the duration of the brightening phase from 10 to 90 minutes (between 30 and 60 minutes is recommended) and adjust the brightness, your lights will reach. Your light then brightens to the maximum intensity by the time you’ve set, by shifting from dim warm red, ending in bright and cold white after its light up duration (if supported by the light bulb). The brighter the light, the better the effect will be on your body. The goal is to put you into lighter sleep, so that you awake easier.

Add multiple wake-up lights as a weekly schedule. Control different lights with their own custom time, duration and brightness. Everyone in the same house can control the wake-up lights, too – thanks to HomeKit.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

A wake-up light alarm clock brings you slowly in shallower states of sleep by gradually increasing the brightness in your room. The light travels through your closed eye lids, notifying your body the same way as a natural sunrise. This gradual transition from deeper to shallower states of sleep has been found to wake you more naturally and boost your mood, energy and productivity for the whole day through.

Let your lights brighten your morning.

Needs to make it good before making money

I really like this app which is the first/only one creating simulated sunrise with smart light bulbs. I should give it 5 stars but decided to less 1 because so many useful features are made premium, e.g. the number of scenes. With more people turning to smart light bulbs, I believe the need of simulated sunrise will increase. The author should make this App more friendly at this moment to attract higher ratings. Once the market is raising, it will be too late and competitors can easily overtake this one if the rating kept low.

Worth Subscribing for Premium Features

I’ll start by saying I abhor subscription-based pricing. However, I feel this price is perfectly reasonable even if slightly annoying. I have long loved my Philips wake-up light and that cost over $100 USD so the small cost of this app makes it totally worthwhile and cost-effective too. It would take three years of subscribing to this app to add up to the cost of even the lower tier Philips alarm. I also like that the money goes to an independent developer.

There’s nothing like waking “with the sun.” With smart home tech gaining in popularity, it’s actually kind of shocking the features of this app are not integrated into HomeKit already. I currently have my IKEA under cabinet lighting and a faux window I created using Nanoleaf LED strips set to slowly brighten up in the morning. It’s so nice to use lighting to build a natural rhythm into day to day life, and I’m very grateful for this app.

Developer Response ,

Thank you for your 5-star review, mgunslinger17! I am glad to hear that you find the subscription-based pricing for the premium features to be reasonable and that you appreciate the cost-effectiveness of the app compared to traditional wake-up lights. Your support is much appreciated. Thank you for using Wake Up Light.

Simplify HomeKit automations!

HomeKit automations are super powerful, but complex series of automations like this can be tiresome and error prone to setup by hand. Wake Light does this right, and it’s awesome!

Pro Tip #1: A series of scenes will be created - if you don’t want to see them in the Home app, you can long tap on them, and deselect “Include in Favorites”. (Third party developers don’t have control over this, so don’t blame this app!)

Pro Tip #2: Use the Shortcuts app to set your light to turn off when you stop your alarm. The automation created with Wake Light are smart enough to not turn back on again! Very well done!
