Description
The updated 9NEWS app gives you access to all the latest breaking news from a trusted team of journalists, with custom alerts so you never miss anything. 9NEWS has been covering Australia and the world for more than 60 years so you know it's a source you can rely on.
You can swipe through all the news and videos in our completely re-designed app experience and subscribe to a variety of alerts, including Sport, Politics, World, Finance, Weather, Entertainment and Technology.
The app uses geo-targeting to alert you to 'News Near Me'. This feature sends an alert for breaking news within a few kilometres of your current location – just allow access to your location when prompted. This can be especially useful for alerts about traffic delays or accidents, fires, floods, and police operations.
We understand that too many alerts can be intrusive, so our team will only send ones we think you will find truly interesting. Our alerts are sent without an audible tone so you won't be disturbed at the wrong time.
The 9NEWS app also allows you to set your location by city or postcode so you see extra stories from your state and weather forecasts for exactly where you live.
If you feel you're getting too many alerts, or too few, you can easily change your subscriptions within the app on the Settings screen.

Channel 9 News
My husband and I have been watching Channel 9 news for years. We really enjoy watching Channel 9 and we enjoy listening to Peter Hitchener, he does a great job reading the news. We also enjoy watching Alicia Locksley who is a delightful young lady and she also does a great job with the news. Lavinia Nixon is also a lovely young lady who does the weather, and also Madeleine Spark is also lovely at doing the weather report. We also enjoy all of the other Channel 9 reporters, because they also do a great job. Thankyou Channel 9, you are my favourite Channel. Regards Coral Ryan 😁👍
My husband and I have always enjoyed watching Channel 9 news and Alicia Locksley and Tom Steinford are doing a wonderful job reading the news, and also Tony Jones does a wonderful job with sport news.
I really enjoy the way they can have a laugh together, they are a great team.

FINALLY, PUSH NOTIFICATIONS FIXED! 😁
I would most definitely recommend the 9News app to most of the Australian population. News delivered fast, readable and accessible content, notifications for breaking news (SO happy this was fixed in a recent update) and even weather. What more could you ask from the 9News app? The only thing that could be improved is the occasional spelling and grammar errors, and also, just WHY are there “alerts” inside an app? That’s just wrong when most people should already get push notifications. One more negative to think of. I was quite confused when the app starting bombing us with “Karl Stephanovic” alerts. Surely this is just a way to praise the Nine team which is good but there were just too many alerts. Overall, though, this should be a 4/5 app because it is quite good if you want breaking news to your phone in an instant and if you want good coverage of the events happening right now.
Frustrating
Used to change articles daily, now things can stay as “news” for a week. Used to have quirky stories that were good for a giggle in these serious times, they no longer make it into the news app. Used to have entertainment news (not gossip) now it’s rubbish from Today & 60minutes that can be available for weeks with no change.
I’m a Victorian & have to wade through multiple NRL stories for 1 AFL story and I can’t change it despite being set to my area...... BTW there’s more than NRL when it comes to sport. Richie Port just finished 3rd in the Tour de France after riding a brilliant final week - 1 article that didn’t even mention his name or achievement in the title - disappointing.
I rely on these apps to stay up to date due to my work hours but I’m ready to delete due to the recent changes, the old articles & the irrelevance of the news this app offers.
