Update: the transactions weren’t showing up because Stake recently implemented a new system to generate tax reports directly but these reports only included data from 2020. The person who helped me was able to send me a separate csv file with the missing transactions which I uploaded to Sharesight and cleared the invalid holdings. When I got around to emailing Stake they responded in a timely manner and I was able to lodge my tax returns this afternoon. Thanks! I’ve had a great experience trading with Stake up until recently when trying to do my taxes. When I downloaded my transaction summary report to upload to Sharesight, I noticed that a couple of my “buy” transactions were missing from my summary report, even though I can still see them in my transaction history on Stake. As a result, these came up as “invalid holdings” on Sharesight and I am unable to proceed. I have tried to reach out to Stake in the past via email but they don’t seem to check them. Stake if you are reading this please help me rectify this issue. Happy to update my review once this issue is resolved.

Stake takes a nice stake of your spread

This app started off good for me, when I only had a little bit to invest, and didn’t understand the US market very well. However, it soon became highly apparent that Stake does not get you efficient prices. If I put in a “market” order for a fractional share, I can be guaranteed that if it’s a BUY, my by price will be much higher than the last traded price, while if it’s a SELL, I will get a price much lower than the last traded price. In addition, their limit orders are terrible, whereby you cannot leave a limit order over more than one day (it will automatically cancel), while they do not provide any sort of market depth info, which means you are trading blind. Ultimately, I do not feel like this app has the investors best interests at heart, but rather, that the app is designed to make big fat commissions off your trades as they take your order and sell it to a bigger broker who simply offers them every available trade that you want to make, but offers it to Stake at a better price, which they pawn off to you with their margin on top. Decent app for someone with limited knowledge of the market and not much to invest. But no good for someone looking to buy shares efficiently, and in terms of honesty with which they make a profit off you, they are probably less honest than your standard Commsecs given they way they profit off your trades. Always beware of “no commission” platforms.

Stake: Great for Beginners, But Persistent Withdrawal Delays Disappoint.I’ve been using the Stake app for several years, and for young investors seeking easy access to Australian and international stocks, it’s a solid starting point. The platform’s user-friendly interface makes trading straightforward, and my overall experience has been largely positive.However, my biggest frustration is the consistent delays in withdrawing larger amounts to my bank account. This isn’t a one-off issue—I’ve encountered it multiple times over the years. Out of curiosity, I recently tested this by initiating transfers from my personal and SMSF accounts: one small and one substantial. The smaller amount arrived within the promised two business days, no problem. But the larger withdrawal from my SMSF had not arrived after four business days, forcing me to raise a support ticket that went unanswered. It finally processed on day five, leaving me wondering if my complaint spurred action or if it would have taken even longer. I can imagine Stake responding to this citing security concerns as the reason for the delay, but this excuse would be non sensical—I’ve made numerous transactions to the same bank account without issue, so claiming it’s for my safety would not hold up. In an era of instant payments like Osko and crypto transfers, it’s unacceptable for financial institutions to repeatedly delay access to users’ funds, likely to earn interest on our money. These persistent delays erode trust, hence my three-star rating. Stake could improve by streamlining withdrawals, responding promptly to support queries with regard to withdrawals much more promptly.
Investing is finally as easy as it should be!

Before a friend recommended Stake, I had explored many different trading platforms but each had their own fatal flaw. Investing through my bank required a costly startup fund (which acquiring as a final year high school student was not an option) and only allowed me to trade ASX. Paying more to only be able to trade what’s basically considered penny stocks in the States just didn’t feel like the way investing should be in 2019.Other options like Vanguard took away flexibility and only gave me a few indexes to buy, plus my low capital meant I would have to pay more for their services. While this was more competitive than the ridiculous offerings from our big banks, it was still far enough away from ideal that it turned me off to investing.Stake provided me with the perfect combination of extremely low one time flat fees (which meant I could invest as little as I liked) and extreme flexibility to invest in whatever US stock or index I like. I’ve currently invested in a series of tech companies as well as the same Vanguard index mentioned before (but this time without the fees) and I regularly add around $50 from my paycheque each fortnight. This allows me to save for the long term and not be tempted to spend every last dollar I earn. Also the $0 trading fees allows me to experiment with different combinations of stocks and indexes without worrying about giving up a little of my hard earned funds each time. Stake is by far the best option for young investors in Australia and I couldn’t recommend it enough!
