Notes is the best place to jot down quick thoughts or to save longer notes filled with checklists, images, web links, scanned documents, handwritten notes or sketches. And with iCloud, it's easy to keep all your devices in sync, so you’ll always have your notes with you.
Features
Powerful note-taking
• Add attachments - PDFs, photos, maps, web links and more.
• Record and transcribe audio directly into a note.
• Scan paper documents with the built-in document scanner.
• Secure sensitive or personal data in a locked note.
• Create checklists. Make a shopping list, a wish list or a to-do list, then tap to tick off items as you go.
• Apply different text styles, such as heading or body, bulleted lists, highlighting and more.
• Tap next to section headers to reveal a chevron to collapse text.
• Add tables to quickly organise information.
• Use your finger, or Apple Pencil on a compatible iPad, to sketch directly in your note or an inline PDF. Choose from a variety of brush styles and colours, and add lines and grids to a note for easier writing and drawing.
• Take a Quick Note without opening the app — add Quick Note to your Control Centre, swipe up from the bottom-right corner with an Apple Pencil on iPad, or use Fn-Q on a keyboard.
Organise and search
• Search for text in notes, your handwriting, and even inside scanned documents and photos like receipts or bills.
• Link from one note to another to connect ideas, content or any information. Try typing >> for a shortcut to add links while writing in your note.
• Keep your notes in folders and subfolders, or add tags to categorise them. Type or handwrite tags directly in your note — like #cooking or #expenses.
• Automatically organise notes in a Smart Folder based on filters. Create rules to filter for Date Created, Checklists, Attachments and more.
Collaborate
• Collaborate on entire shared folders or on specific shared notes.
• Mention friends to notify them of important updates and link them directly to a shared note.
• See what others added to a shared note while you were away with Activity view, a day-to-day list summary of activity from each collaborator.
Notes for Apple Watch
• View all your iCloud notes straight from your wrist; you can also pin notes, complete checklist items, or create new notes with dictation or Siri.
Certain features are available only in selected languages and regions.
I have used Nites for ever - I know what I was doing I thought until a WHOLE folder disappeared, what I thought said Cloud File - No it is nowhere to be found - it has come to my attention that notes do not have backups unless you send the whole NOTE File to you iCloud Drive / Cloud, whatever your preferences & this file, now lost, may cause a loss of a job as we speak. Sadly I have looked everywhere & it has not had any foot print anywhere - it’s 5 months of notes on a project, just gone & I wonder if an auto save button could be selected ir what another review suggested - a BACK BUTTON - please, your updates are becoming frustrating - give us the option first - thank you - I’m not happy 🥀

does the basics well enough and syncs with Notes on all apple devices (except watch iirc). does some nice things like if you copy in some text with bullet points from (say) a webpage it will convert to numbered lists and checklist styles and remove the text glyphs from bullets. stuff like that. would be great if we could define our own Text Styles and include space before/after in paragraph style definitions using CSS or whatever the way some commercial note taking/lists/GTD ready apps do. ie user defined themes that import/export as a themes (even if it just strips the settings from imported notes and allows you to name and save themes of styles). i mainly use for personalorganising and (shared) shopping lists, and shared « bring these items » to this event lists.as per all Apple product the exclusion of interoperability with other software standards and devices is a constant source of frustration and micro-aggravation towards their global scale customer base.
There is one problem that really bugs me.

This app is great, I use it a lot. I wish you could change the font size to way larger text. Also, when I have a note file with a lot of text in it, (I’d say over 1500 words, and above). When you scroll down with your finger , it will jump to another section of the note file, so I have to scroll back to where I was reading. It happens quite often that it is really irritating. Also, sometimes when I copy text from a different app, then I open notes again, and it has moved to a completely different section of text to what I was viewing a few seconds ago, before I switched app so I could copy some text. And then I have to scroll and find my place where I was. It’s so annoying, particularly if you have large notes. It doesn’t happen with small notes. Please fix this issue. Otherwise I will find a different note app.
Good, but could be more neurodivergent-friendly

Firstly, iOS 26—can we please have the option to move the search bar back to the top of the page as an accessibility setting? Both in Notes and elsewhere in iOS 26. Secondly it would be nice to have better integrated and colour-coded folders. As its name suggestd all I want to do is take notes but steadily the app has become anything but simplistic, ignoring basics like the ability to change fonts. On that note (pardon the pun) why is there no option to change font? Lowercase A’s look like O’s which is a nightmare for anyone with low vision.i have written entire manuscripts in this app and will continue to do so, but it is in need of a KISS-refresh.
