One of the few reliable sources of independent news

From the calibre of the news reports, the informed opinion pieces and the reflective attention to the public discourse: The Age brings the real news.
Even within the standard of the comments, the commentary from readers reflects earnest responses from people who are invested in understanding the news at all levels. It is not encumbered by short inflammatory barbs, hate speech, or the type of news spread designed to conflate issues to pit people against each other.
The Age & The Guardian are both essential reading. One cannot be without news sources which are voraciously dedicated to the the delivery of independent news and information.

Poor substitute for The Age for iPad

Please, Fairfax, I beg you to reinstate The Age for iPad.

I want a newspaper app which includes the same relevant news articles as the print edition. There should be sections in the app as I read which follow on from the same concept as the printed edition.

I don’t want snippets of news reports, articles which do not change day after day, links to video clips taken from commercial television news report. Did I subscribe to Facebook or The Age?

The “home” section seems woefully like a work in progress and the “my news” section is limited to 5 articles per section. If you wish to view other articles you have to go to the “browse” tab which presents a list of topics in a very unimaginative way and you have to click each section by section. There is no sense of flow.

Major weekly features such as Epicure/Good Food, Drive, Domain, and Traveller are missing. Instead the reader is directed generic websites of the same name but do not feature the stories which are found in the respective sections of the actual newspaper. I feel short-changed.

I found myself going to the “Today’s Paper” to download the digital copy of the printed edition more and more - that way I know I am getting what I at least subscribed to because the main app itself is under-developed, poorly laid out and disappointing.

If they can’t be bothered, then maybe the next version should just load The Age’s main website?!

Dreadful app

After the excellent functionality of the IPad App I am appalled at what has been provided. News is infrequently updated and often several days old. Why did you change it and especially in such a retrograde way. Tiny little photos with a few lines per article and having to scroll down to see what is in the paper, (see comment above re out of date), acres of white space. I sent a complaint in and got some meaningless mumble back. I am not sure if the Age has grasped that there is a problem in the news world and that many don’t read papers. Seems like they want to lose their subscribers too who have been given a dud App. Why don’t you listen to those who have provided reviews of the App and make some real changes . The comments I have seen cover many of the same issues and you could actually see where you need to improve, which would be answered by bringing back the features of the old App, which actually worked!
