Much better than the old one...
The old app was a complete pain in the backside, every update seemed a step backwards! HSBC did the right thing starting again, and for some reason, this one seems immediately to work much more intuitively and without the random glitches of old. Maybe a new app is at least placebo over the last awful app! The one main things I like is that you can add a new payee. I mainly use the app to pay my suppliers, so being able to add a new payee ‘in app’, without going back to my desktop, is a big bonus (why did it take so long?!). I’m not exactly sure why I need my security machine to pay that new supplier, if I’m already logged in and passed for security using Face ID, but I’m not complaining too much. The old app was so poor, than any improvement is going to produce gushing praise. Keep the updates coming, this app should be the only interface anyone ever needs with HSBC, keep it simple and beautiful, then all will be well in the world.
Not bad but transactions could be clearer
Can you please change the transaction page to show the transaction date per row, instead of grouped by above x transactions - currently you effectively force us to read top to bottom so we know the date the records relate to, but when comparing a previous month’s transactions to journal entries from beginning to end of month, I need to read bottom to top, which is hampered by needing to read above the transactions to find out what date they relate to, for every single day which is a real pain. Santander show date per transaction and it is so much easier to read. Thanks!
Update: Also, when you ‘make a payment’, after you select a payee and pay them, that payee is then moved up the list of payees, so the order is constantly changing as you pay different people over time, requiring you to not instinctively press the payee at the position you previously expected it to be located, like every other bank app I own; please remove the resort based on last used date.
Less key functionality than old app
One of the things I found very useful with the old HSBC business app was the fact that it told me how much I had to spend in smaller characters immediately underneath my account balance-this allowed for some transactions that were clearing by debit card or other means and gave me a much better idea of what I had to spend and helps avoid going over the limit when working the business hard.
The new app doesn’t apparently have that facility, or if it does it’s well hidden.
Pretty much everything else is the same as the old one, so for the moment although I have both on my phone I’m sticking with the old app to let me have more accurate information about my account.
Up to six family members will be able to use this app with Family Sharing enabled.
