This app is good when it works but is always offline as a new member trialling this I am apprehensive as too whether to continue to pay for direct leads as I decided to email a customer back off my own email to be told she had not received my original email through the Checkatrade link which does not put my company in a good light for responding through I am always happy to pay for any service provided but the problem with me is I expect 100 % they also removed by contact number so when customers called they were told to revisit Checkatrade and choose another trader 😡again it’s a good job I am on the ball otherwise how long would this have gone on for

To start with they seem very helpful, once your tied into a contract they couldn’t care less about you, they stop sending you as many job leads after a while regardless of how many positive reviews you get. Whenever there’s an issue you can never get through to anyone and if you do it’s to a call centre in a different country where you will struggle to communicate with the operator on the other end. The only time they call you is when they’re trying to sell you some extra you ca add to your membership. When your contract is nearly up you then have the task of trying to cancel your membership (which if I was you I would). They give you two weeks to do this and they won’t reply to emails or answer the phone to let you cancel the “automatic renewal “ as they call it. What they refer to as an automatic renewal is actually them doubling your monthly payments and putting you on a completely different plan because they’ll tell you they no longer offer the plan you originally took out a year before, so in my eyes that isn’t a “contract renewal” as the original contract you take out is never ever the same as the one they force you into the second year. The aggressive marketing techniques they use over the phone are diabolical, please do yourself a favour and stay well clear of this company there are so many other company’s that offer a better service, by far the worst out of all the advertising company’s I’ve used.

Recent “improvements” have made this app almost unsustainable. I do not have time to keep switching between “job details” and “chat” when responding to jobs. I don’t need a chat notification and a new job notification when both say the same thing. If I accept/decline a job on one tab (eg the chat tab) I still have to go to the jobs tab to clear the notification. So now my app is forever showing notifications for things I’ve already seen and I miss things I haven’t. Add in the flurry of promotional messages over Christmas, and since, and I’m considering quitting checkatrade completely.Edit: thanks for your response. Please look at the feedback from other users; chat seems to be unwanted by many users. Meanwhile the ability to copy a customer’s phone number and paste it into WhatsApp or other apps was a useful feature that’s been removed (for example, I don’t use my main ‘phone number for business calls, I have a virtual number, so simply tapping the number in the Checkatrade app doesn’t work for me). As busy people, we want to keep our messages in one or two places or they can be overlooked. That’s not good for Checkatrade as customers will get a poor experience.

I’ve been with checkatrade since 2014 and have the highest amount of good reviews in my area. When I first joined checkatrade it was about getting the best tradesmen with high reviews and they would be shown first to potential customers.Now it’s all changed so the more money you pay the more exposure you get so the good tradesmen don’t get shown. Every job is shown to 3 tradesmen and the customer isn’t shown the qualified and best tradesmen automatically. Checkatrade has been sold many times and lost its way and now just about squeezing as much money out of the tradesmen as possible. I’ve known a lot of local experienced tradesmen quit through the sham practices who’s been with them for many years.Years ago you could have multiple skills listings and postcodes for nothing extra and now you get charged for each heading and postcode! You could end up paying £1000’s per month.In 2022 I had 82 profile views in a month and 55 quality leads may 2026 I got 2 leads and they didn’t reply! DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY. Next year I’m gone!
