If you’re serious about fitness and competition then get this app. There is a lot of configuration and a lot of science behind making this app work for you but if you’re laser focused on a goal and purchase a high quality training plan to integrate into the app (MyProCoach, 80/20 Endurance etc…) then this will take your training from “Strava Social” to Stratospheric. If you’re looking for “likes, kudos and fuzzy feeling” save your cash. If you’re looking for a forensic breakdown of your abilities, some hard truths and hard work, get this. No one cares about your epic selfie on here or the group ride coffee stop. Just numbers and work. It’s beautiful.
For those who take training seriously, but has some limitations
Nick G I
Training Peaks is by far the best service I have found to plan and track serious training. I’m not a professional, or even high level amateur, athlete, but I was looking for a tool that would help me manage my training in a professional manner and not clutter the experience with gimmicks. I wanted something that would enable me to follow the advice I had gleaned from Training for the New Alpinism — that would help me monitor effectively my progress toward achieving my climbing training goals. I am not interested in sharing my stats with strangers, gamifying my training, seeing where I sit on a leader board, or sharing my training “stories” and photos on social media. Training Peaks (TP) gives me what I am looking for. In truth, to really get the most out of TP, you will need to pay for Premium, but if you’re serious about training (as opposed to just exercise) it is worth it. And this mobile app, whilst fundamentally good, does have some limitations / frustrations. For example, it would be good to be able to drag and drop training sessions in the calendar the same way as within the web app. In addition, the user experience is a little lacking — the design is a touch dated, and would benefit from better use of colour and larger typography.
Like taxes, increasingly paying more for less

I have been a coach and premium athlete on TP for years. I coach people on the platform. The stats and general theory of the platform are great. However… Rates have just gone up for coaches and I believe premium athletes alike. However the platform and particularly the app perform awfully. A note was issued a number of months ago accepting that performance was not good across the board. However, with the addition of ‘value add’ services such as the presently buggy and beta virtual cycling component, I feel TP have lost their way. There has been a movement toward competing with the modern tech and more gimmicky aspects of cycling inside rather than the core that is their coaching platform. And to that extent, things are worse…much worse. The app is gradually morphing into a mess. It is slow and getting slower. Comments frequently fail to load or post. The same issues exist on the web version but are less noticeable…the app however has become almost useless it is so intermittently slow to say the least. I would love to say it’s my network or device, but everything else runs fine on this iPad and I have the same irrespective of local network or vpn. As someone that works in technology, as a technologist, it is not a local issue. But hey, I will continue to pay more, get less, own nothing and be happy I suppose. TP, please stick to your core business and get that right consistently before adding things atop it and then charging us all for the privilege of a degraded service. Overall TP just about retain my business, but the app on iPad is a 1 star as it all to frequently wastes my time and is inferior to the web based version.

I like my tech but I’m finding TP overwhelming

I represent a new wave of user that comes from the Zwift indoor trainer market. That’s an over simplification as I also run and swim. So now I use Wahoo Kickr & TP virtual for indoor cycling, Garmin Edge and Connect for outdoor cycling, Watch Ultra for running and swimming and Withings for weight/body fat - all now feeding into my new TP Premium account. That’s the easy part. Trouble is I, and I suspect a lot of this new wave of user, have zero intention of hiring a coach and it’s taken until now to figure out basic things like that I need to set up an Annual Training Plan. First impression is that this app (web, iOS, iPadOS) needs serious modernisation and improvements in intuitiveness. Nevertheless I will review when I have spent more time with it. I hope it works out or I may just get a Garmin watch and do everything in Garmin Connect.
