You get what you pay for
The system seems to work ok most of the time. On occasion things go a bit squiffy but for the price that’s to be expected. I have similar issues with devices that are over 3 X the price of these.
I have 2 bulbs and 4 power outlets, one remote and 2 on/off switches for 2 of the the outlets. The on/off switches will not update to the latest firmware. They just say “updating” and time-out after a couple of days. But they still work so it’s not a big issue.
My big gripe is “why is there no HomeKit support for the outlets yet?” It’s been ages since release so it should be available by now. I’m using “HomeAssistant” to bridge the gap to give HomeKit support and it works flawlessly, so why can’t Ikea get it working natively? Other outlets have native support! So all in all, there not perfect, but so much cheaper than many others, you get what you pay for!!!!
Developer Response ,
Thank you for your feedback! If your on/off switch still is not updated try moving it closer to the TRÅDFRI Gateway, this should help the switch to update faster. Also changing to fresh batteries could help.
We are very sorry for the delayed HomeKit support for the control outlets. But I can assure you that a release is not far away now.
Sorry for the inconvenience

I like this system but there a issues.
I have two dimmers for top and bottom of a stair well.
1 dimmer took two weeks before it updated to the latest firmware.
I against all odds and a hell of a lot of pushing buttons between dimmer to dimmer and bulb I managed to get both linked to one bulb. This was great. Until I needed to change my setup and it stopped working. Now nothing I do now will allow me to pair the dimmers together again and I am not sure what the sequence was when I first did it!!!?? So now I have a dimmer that I cannot use.
This needs to be fixed.
Also the dimmers and remotes do not show up as controlled devices. This puts a big limit on automation that you can setup where if a dimmer or remote comes on or off do something. You do not want it to be always when a bulb comes on. For instance the dimmer or remote controls a group but you also control the bulbs by the app or HomeKit.
The remotes and dimmers need to link via the gateway and not via the bulbs.
I was going to get a motion detector also but a friend got one and because it like the dimmers and remotes only link to a bulb and does not show up as a controlled device. You cannot automate with it. Also it appeared that regardless of where they placed it you had to be a couple of feet way from it for it to react.!!!
Great lights - terrible app
Love these lights and having them automated to turn on and off etc. Unfortunately every single time I open the app it tells me I must connect to the WiFi network to use it - every time I’m already on the WiFi and it fixes itself after about 10 seconds, so it’s annoying but still usable.
The first 3 months I had the system it also spent its life needing to be hard reset on the control box (at least once a week) which involves finding a pin to press the button and then rescanning the codes etc to set up the app - this seems to have gone away so people are obviously working on improving the software, but in 6 months I’m surprised it’s not better than it is...
