Honestly I cannot fault this bank AT ALL; I’ve had nothing but good experiences with them. I’ve been using Monzo for years now, and I’ve recently made them my main bank account. The app is incredibly easy and simple to use, and you have so many perks, even when using a free account. I fled abuse in January and became homeless whilst I was on the run trying to find safety. Monzo went above and beyond to maintain my safety and even checked in with me to check I was okay or could do anything; they even sent links and advice about support I could get with what I was going through. They were extremely supportive and patient throughout everything, and I appreciated everything they did and are still doing. I felt completely safe and like Monzo actually cared, which is a lot more than I can say about any other bank I’ve been with. The ONLY thing that could be better, is withdrawing money from a cash point or the post office. I COMPLETELY understand why they need to do that, as it’s an online bank, rather than a bank in person like others. However, it does surprise me because they then don’t have branches/locations, so it should make more sense to be able to withdraw cash as they don’t have to pay for buildings to operate. Also having to pay for a new card if it’s lost in any way, even if it’s lost in the post which isn’t your fault. But they’re such small issues as a whole, and Monzo are continuously changing and improving their app.
Wow!

I've been with Monzo around 18 months and in all my over 26 years with Nationwide, I have never been impressed with my bank & banking experience & the banking app, which I love! The app is fantastic, I get my credit credit score and updates. It gives me a breakdown of my spending in categories, so I can see where I'm spending too much money etc, their support is instant, and they have a really good chargeback ethics so if you're doing a chargeback, and I've done three, and I've been paid instantlyPlus I recently made a complaint because I was not being listened to in a chat. My point of view was ignored, and Monzo wrote to me and even apologised, they gave me a present to say sorry, Nationwide have never done that once in 26 years, over 26 years, they have also never apologised for anything they've done negative to me. I just think Monzo is absolutely sensational, to be honest, I love it. I am so grateful for an easy, trendy banking experience. I've also had more interest with Monzo in 18 months than I have been with nationwide in over a quarter of century! lolI can send money to my contacts from my phone, I can do split payments. I can invite people to Monzo and we both get a welcome fee. I can share my payment link with my friends and family, I like how my banking details are hidden in the app and my biometrics such as my face is the only way that I can access the info... Monzo is actually such fun. I recommended my young nephew to Monzo a few months ago, and he is as blown away as Me, and we're both using our Monzo card as our main card now Cheers!!
Unreliable

I’ve been with Monzo for several years now and while I generally find the app to be good and feature wise, ahead of the curve compared to the big banks, it’s just not reliable enough. There have been several occasions where the app has just stopped working for no apparent reason, requiring a complete reinstall to get working again. Today was the worst yet. I have just endured through a panic stricken 15 minutes trying to withdraw money from a savings account only to be repeatedly presented with “time-out” messages, and similar error messages in other parts of the app. Absolutely nothing in the app was working at all, not even the help section, so it was impossible for me to contact support. Logging out caused the app to crash and I was then unable to log back in. Alternative methods of contact are not shown anywhere and the help section on the website is useless, blaming my internet connection or email account (which are both working perfectly). Deleting the app and reinstalling it fixed the issue but I would not have known to do this, and would have had no way to find out, had I not been previously told to do so last time something went wrong. I’m going to switch I think, once I’ve emptied my savings account. For a bank that operates ENTIRELY within an app, even occasional episodes such as this are totally intolerable, especially if I’m going to be cut off from support at the exact time that I need my money.
Appalling bank. Closed disabled person’s account without notice or cause

TLDR: Save yourself the trouble and go with Starling. I was exclusively Monzo for more than 4 years. Bear in mind I’m a vulnerable adult on disability benefits, and this was my only current account with any bank: My balance was locked and inaccessible for weeks. My benefits (all my income, including my rent) were paid into an account I wasn't allowed access to. They “couldn’t” tell me why they had closed my account, best I got out of them was justifying it in an email as a “commercial decision” - which they are required to give several weeks notice for! Account closures without notice are not for “commercial decisions” they are for me breaking the rules or the law, which I did not do. I assume they just weren’t making enough money off me because I’m poor. If they want to close my account they have the right to do so, but not without warning just because they feel like it. Had to set up a new account with another bank and was unable to use the current account switching service so had to set up all my income and regular payments manually like a chump. It took forever, going in person to places to set things up when my disability makes this very difficult. Monzo knew all of this and basically told me to do one. Put a lot of stress on me at a very difficult time. Appalled and got everyone I know (who I had raved to about Monzo and got to create accounts!) to close their accounts and they were happy to do so, given how Monzo behaved.
We're always keeping things running smoothly with regular bug fixes and maintenance. If there's something new, we'll shout about it. (Not literally. Apps can't shout).
