Split My Fare - Train Tickets 4+

This has now overtaken Trainline as my main train ticket buying app. It’s easier to use and all the early bugs in the app seem to have been ironed out.

For short journeys there is usually no cost saving over buying a ticket at the station, but the app remembers frequent destinations so I now use it for these trips making it saving time and paper.

The app really comes into its own especially for journeys with a railcard starting early in the day - for these the app often achieves significant savings over others which also claim to use split ticketing but don’t do it as well.

Having recently purchased return tickets and saved money on them, news broke that there would be several train strikes threatened across various regions. Split my Fare took the initiative and contacted me to say in detail how I would be affected and offered me choices including a full refund as some of our journeys would be impacted. My wife had also emailed SMF about the situation and received prompt and helpful replies. So my experience of your customer service team has been totally brilliant . Thank you very much.

I really like this app and the service behind it. I consistently find that I’m offered cheaper fares than on competitor sites, it’s easy to use and - as I travel quite a lot - I want all my tickets stored in the same place. The only fee charged is a proportion of the saving achieved from splitting tickets which feels very reasonable.

I would love to see the app adjusted to enable people to opt out of a split ticket if they wish. When the saving is small and the train is likely to be busy, I want to prioritise keeping the same reserved seat throughout the journey. This is rarely achieved with a split ticket (for understandable reasons).

We understand it is frustrating when you have to change seats; we try to minimise seat changes as much as possible, but operators make this very difficult as they do not like that split ticketing means less revenue for them. We are planning to implement a solution with fewer seat changes in the future.
