App always needs Wi-fi

On a recent trip away, we forgot to set the alarm so I attempted a set while my partner was driving along M3. It wouldn’t allow me to log in using my PIN or my email/password. I couldn’t even get a successful reset of the password, either. Once we got to our destination, I logged in to the questionable hotel Wi-fi to get another reset and log in. It still didn’t work. Had to get a new invitation to join from the engineer. This is not good.
If you can’t access your system without a Wi-fi connection, what’s the point?

Hello, apologies you have had issues. You do not need a Wi-Fi connection to make the system work, any internet connection is absolutely fine. Has the system functioned previously when not connected to your home network?

Why all the negativity?

I learnt about the alarm system before installing & configuring it myself at home. It certainly wasn’t a simple process, but Texecom are great at providing support via detailed manuals, online help forum & even a free telephone support line (which I used a lot!). Once the entire system was in and tested 4 years ago it’s been solid & reliable ever since. The app, although not the most user friendly I’ve used has again been solid & reliable since installation, as long as you know how to set it up, I’ve armed and disarmed my alarm from abroad a few times & the only time I’ve had any issue was when my ISP let me down and disconnected my internet, which of course has nothing to do with Texecom. Anyone who used the v1 app will know that this one is way better, & hopefully Texecom will continue to invest in its development. I also hope we’ll start to get some home automation / integrations options with platforms like Phillips Hue & perhaps even Google home etc (if security isn’t compromised).

Painful

This has to be the most difficult app I have encountered for some years Firstly, the app wouldn’t send to my main email account when setting up on my phone and I had to set up another email just for this app. Then we had to use that email to log in my wife on her phone …and the fun really started. Nothing is clear - who is master/standard? Names became abbreviated then duplicated. I can’t change my name, and after a few minutes, all ability to view other users disappeared, so we can’t rename or edit anything. I am effectively excluded and my wife can’t recall me. The information on setting up master users is, quite frankly, appalling. I’m sure the app works ok once set up, but unfortunately it’s from the dark days of app development where there is an assumption of prior experience and knowledge of the service being operated. Poor
