Join the underground movement and download the Tyne Tunnels app, the smart and easy way to pay the toll with our new Open Road Tolling operation. With the Tyne Tunnels app it’s easy for you to top up your account and go through the tunnels. Use the app to log in to your account, or set one up and pre pay for your journeys. Pre-paid customers also save 10% on every journey!

Top up your account – you can top up your Tyne Tunnels account quickly and conveniently.
Manage your account – update your contact details, securely store a preferred payment method for a faster top up experience, and set up low balance alerts.
Auto top-up – set up Auto top-up so your account always has credit
Live journey times – view live journey times for key routes across the river Tyne, including the Tyne Tunnel, Tyne bridge and A1 western bypass.

Won’t top up
App not fit for purpose. You log in and it spins round and round without even loading balance or allowing top ups. Just to add to life’s stresses even further.
Great app
Never have an issue with the app and find it intuitive. It’s by far the easiest way to maintain credit on your account and travel through the tunnel.
Won’t process top up payment
Whenever I try to top up, once all details have been submitted and I press the pay/submit button the little wheel of death appears constantly spinning over the button but nothing happens. So I had to forfeit it earlier today and just drive through and pay the full £1.90 after my journey.
Also for some unknown reason if you have an account / car reg registered with the app and have less than the toll amount on your account, once you have been tagged going through the tunnel that journey doesn’t appear on your account, you have to go to the website and use the “pay for passage” service. It’s like the two things don’t speak to each other at all and aren’t linked. It’s so weird, like you’re a brand new customer paying as you go without an account.
Why can’t the system just register your journey on your account, send a push notification to you saying “unpaid journey required to be paid by midnight” or something to that effect so account holders can just go on and pay that way and top up their account there and then. Seems crazy to me other than it’s a money spinner to get people to forget to pay after the event or not even realise they didn’t have enough funds to pay until it’s too late.
