Problematic

I’ve had my Widex Evoke 440 for two years now. I have used the app to create a new sound profile for watching tv which was useful. The “find my hearing aids” wasn’t of any use when I misplaced one aid in the house last week as it isn’t that precise. Most of the time to make any adjustments to volume I just triple tap the side button on my iPhone. The reason for my review today is I’m finding that the volume on my earpieces keeps randomly jumping to 94 - not sure if it’s the app or my phone. It’s all a bit unpredictable!

Poor features and Bluetooth

I keep my iPhone X in my breast pocket but still the Bluetooth continually phases out where left is out of sync with right. It regularly loses connection too so far worse than cheap Bluetooth headphones when it comes to listening to audio on the iPhone. As this was a significant influencer of my choice to by Widex it is likely the aids will be returned after the trial period.

The most significant reason for return though will be the fact there is no simple manual control of feature switching which makes farce of the learning functionality of the app. If you plan to use your hearing aids for listening to audio on the iPhone this app will drive you nuts as you cannot manually override feature switching. So if you pause playback or use an app that broadcasts audio intermittently the app will switch to a world listening mode and hide the podcast/mix feature which is IMO one of the most useful features.

My profession is in audio and tech so I tried to contact widex to make suggestions and share details with them. This is where they fail users completely. There is no direct tech support. I called them, they shared a dud email which gives another email that refers you back to your hearing professional. They refuse outright to give users access to anyone within the company. They provide no direct user support which equates to idiocy and sends a huge signal that they don’t care about end users.

Cutting Edge Tech

I think previous reviews are somewhat harsh. This is pretty advanced tech compared to the competition. OK, it’s not without its glitches, but Widex Seems to be working on the weaknesses - my aids have been updated twice via the app.
Concerns have been expressed about being unable to rename favourites, this isn’t the case, renaming is quite easily performed.
I don’t use all the apps features (they are numerous), but largely I’m very happy with the flexibility afforded by the app, principally because my Eustachian tube has a mind of its own and my natural hearing varies significantly over the course of the day. These aids help to smooth-out the peaks and troughs. Obviously, they are not as good a perfect natural hearing, but they’re pretty good and are a major improvement on my ‘natural’ duff lugs!
