Launched in 2011, MapAlerter is a free alert service for people living in Ireland who want to receive important service notifications from their County or City Council. The alerts you receive are based on your preferred location (eg, Eircode) so you will only receive updates for issues and events that affect you.
-- Professional Mapping at your fingertips --
MapAlerter includes an interactive mapping system that allows you to browse various events and updates from your local area. Along with mapped Council alerts, you can view the property price register, road temperatures, river heights and commercial rates for your local area.
-- Councils --
MapAlerter is used by the majority of Irish local authorities. Councils issue alerts across a number of service areas on MapAlerter, including:
-- Water Service Alerts
-- Boil Water Notices
-- Road Closures & Diversion Alerts
-- Community Alerts & Notices
-- Flood Alerts & Severe Weather Warnings
-- Planning Application Activity
** Check on MapAlerter.com to see what categories are used by your Council. In some cases a Council may only alert for some of these categories.

Handy app but not getting notifications
I downloaded the app so that I could be notified of water alerts. I set up the alerts through settings and I also opted for emails and I haven’t received a notification or email. Not sure if I’m missing something..
Very useful service for Waterford. I get messages for water problems and road works. It used to be text messages but now i get them through the app which is very handy.
Developer Response ,
Thanks a lot! Waterford is using the MapAlerter service for many years and they use it very effectively.
I live & work in two different areas & would like to get alerts for both on my phone but this app doesn’t allow me ☹️. Tweak needed... I should be able to use the same mobile number to receive notifications from two or more selected areas instead of having to choose all areas or none.
Developer Response ,
-> Alert Settings
-> Update Secondary Location
You have the option to:
a) switch on/off the second location
b) if enabled, you can also switch on commute alerts for interim locations. This works for floods, road issues and weather warnings
c) option to leave both options disabled. This means you won’t get secondary location alerts.
Hope this helps.
