Didn’t check us in, unable to book with credit

My partner used the app to check us both in on a flight last September and assumed that it had worked because it said ‘view boarding passes’ (note: plural) under a tick to confirm check-in on the flight page. When we got to the gate they told us I could not fly because I hadn’t been checked in. It was ridiculous as we couldn’t fly any other time that evening as they were sold out and they did not bother trying getting us on the flight. We had to pay $600 to go with another airline. Not impressed. The app needs to make it clear if someone is not checked in on the same booking!!

Fast forward to now, we have over $1300 credit with them due to COVID cancellations and wanted to book cheap flights two weeks ago but weren’t able to use out credit and we are still waiting to book and the flights are double the price! Still not impressed. The app should have a function for using credit by now. Disgraceful customer service.

Excellent Customer Service

I usually do not write reviews, but this person needs to be recognised.
My flight from Christchurch to Hokitika got cancelled 29 Jan, we all headed over to counter 1 to make alternative arrangements. Due to recent surgery I had, I am not able to endure the trip back to Hokitika by road hence the reason why I opted to fly.
Chris was attending to us with another colleague. He prioritised each traveller to ensure everyone is sorted and on their way. The time he took to explain to every passenger what their options were; to when they were escorted to get onto shuttles. All done in a professional manner and without hanging around and wasting time. He was friendly and handled every passenger with respect. After the passengers who opted to go by road have left he turned his attention to my situation. Not only was he sincere and apologetic, he pulled out all the stops to accommodate me until the next available flight.
Chris, I cannot thank you enough!
Air NZ should be proud to have you on their team, you are such a great person who knows how to remain professional at all times.

Untrained or poorly trained frontline staff currently

Had to cancel or change a flight rang they said no credit but could change destination I said any destination the girl said yes this was after a three hour delay waiting for a call back I gave her my number in the event of getting cut off second time she went to ask supervisor a question I got taken to rate the experience as she was gone so long. She didn’t call back so had to repeat got a second operator who said could change or flight dates and destination but neglected to explain when I asked her about any destination that any destination meant within Nz and I couldn’t spend more and go overseas instead spent a day planning and finding accommodation overseas and did an itinerary went to change flights only to find I couldn’t spend more and change they were not willing to go back over their phone tapes see where their staff failed and make amends you can either fly cheap or pay for good service air Nz will need to be cheap as service currently is poor
