Description

Make your arrival in New Zealand a smoother experience by filling out your New Zealand Traveller Declaration (NZTD) before you get here. You can submit it up to 24 hours before starting your trip to New Zealand.

Your declaration will take about 10 minutes to complete and you’ll need to answer the questions in English. You can update it at any time, up until you get to the border in New Zealand.

Information you need to provide when filling out your NZTD includes:
- Your passport, contact and flight details;
- Your immigration status (if required);
- Details about your trip, including your recent travel history;
- Items you are bringing into New Zealand, including in your carry on bags and checked in luggage.

With the NZTD app you can:
- Scan your passport to add your passport details;
- Add and complete multiple declarations, for example, for your children;
- Use offline mode to enter information while you’re flying or out of WiFi or data range. You need to be online to start or submit a declaration.

Once you’ve submitted your NZTD there’s nothing more you need to do. You won’t have to print anything out or show a QR code. Your NZTD will automatically show up when your passport is scanned at the border.

What’s New

Version 1.4.0

Travellers can submit a New Zealand Traveller Declaration (NZTD) by using this official New Zealand Government app if they are arriving aboard a flight or cruise into New Zealand.

The new version (1.4.0) introduces the ability to save a user profile to the device, allowing fast and efficient re-entry of personal data for multiple trips into New Zealand; a minor prompt to make app review simpler and easier to access; and minor security enhancements and cosmetic bug fixes.

Buggy

This app has a decent design, but it’s very buggy. The forms when filling out the bio security and other questions will frequently get into a bad state where it’s not moved on to the next question despite the previous one being answered. Also submitting the declaration doesn’t work on united’s wifi unless using a VPN, and when the submission fails most of the form needs to be filled out again

Absolutely terrible

Contains zero features that you would expect from an app like this.
Has a HUGE bug that doesn’t let you submit your declaration if you fill it in while offline and then later connect to Wi-Fi to submit (which is a stated feature). It gives a validation error on the last screen BUT it actually does submit even though it says there was an error. This means you end up submitting your declaration multiple times.

What they don’t tell you is that there is a delay from when you submit the declaration to when it arrives at the checkpoint. So if your crappy Qantas flight has no Wi-Fi and you fill it in while on the plane and submit as soon as you arrive at the airport then your declaration will be missing. It took 4 of their staff to scratch their heads and then made us go back in line and fill in paper versions for our whole family.

Kia ora. We appreciate your feedback and are sorry you’ve been experiencing issues with the app. If you contact us at https://www.travellerdeclaration.govt.nz/contact/#send-us-a-message with more details we can look into what happened and why.

Great idea, in theory…

Without any clear guidance virtually every traveller would be making a false declaration unless they stated they were carrying plant products (eg cotton clothing, paper, or tissues), medicine (eg aspirin, or betadine for cuts), equipment for clothing for water sports (eg a bikini) or food of some sort (eg coffee sweeteners for diabetics). So how about defining terms, for example medicine eg as only obtainable with prescription or is a controlled substance, so you’re not wasting everyone’s time filling out the form or standing in 3 hour items to declare queues. I guess it’s about being able to fine people.

The address field doesn’t work properly. My mother’s address wouldn’t come up so ended up loading the number and street name and nothing else
