We all love a good strategy game, a space to show off our talents for all things tactical. But starting out in the strategy genre can be quite daunting.

Rivengard aims to rectify that, by delivering an accessible strategy experience, where the depth is present, but the learning curve is kind. Moving your heroes around is simple—drag them to the position you want—and you only have to look at them to check their health status. Soon, planning your moves quickly becomes second nature and heaps of fun.

We spoke to Snowprint Studios’ CEO, Alexander Ekvall, about his team’s passion for games, creating fantastical adventures, and engaging with Rivengard’s fans.

The team at Snowprint take much of their inspiration from their love of tabletop games. “We’re big tabletop players,” says Ekvall. “The Rivengard team has a whole room dedicated to the hobby because it’s a great example of how one experience can inspire our own design.”

Step into Rivengard and you’ll soon see how that influence translates into an incredibly satisfying gaming experience. The feel of moving around on the game’s play field is similar to the hexagon play field of some board games. Add to that fantastic worlds, strategy-deep terrain, and entertaining heroes and it’s an adventure that gets better and takes you further every time you play.

Being playful and curious is part of the development process for Snowprint, and the art team helps achieve that. “When we’re designing live events, we start by deciding who’s going on an adventure, and where they should go,” says Ekvall. “The characters feel like real people that we’re travelling with, no matter how fantastical they are. That’s down to the art team, who give every character such individual expressiveness.”

The team at Snowprint actively stay in touch with the game’s community and fanbase, whose opinions, feedback, and ideas are key to improving the game. That also stretches into events and campaigns. “We ask the community what they would enjoy trying out, and we try to work that in,” Ekvall explains. “We also keep track of the feedback they’ve had for past adventures and use that when we design our new heroes and events.”
