Field Tools is an Itron app built on decades of programmable metering experience in the gas and water utility markets. Field Tools ensures Itron ERTs are configured correctly, allowing a utility to properly bill consumers and analyze meter data with a mobile or head-end system.
Field Tools is designed to improve the efficiency of today’s field worker when installing, programming and checking Itron ERTs. Built on the Itron Mobile foundation, Field Tools enables the use of smartphones and tablets to perform various field tasks related to managing utility meter data collection hardware.
Field Tools includes features such as:

Flexibility
Field Tools is designed to run on smartphones and tablets allowing a Utility to choose the best and most affordable device for each employee, and working alongside other apps reducing the number of mobile devices carried by a field worker.
Connected
The mobile field worker can synchronize new configurations throughout the day using any Internet connection (cellular, Wi-Fi, or Ethernet) from anywhere: at home, in the office, or in the field.
Programming
Field Tools connects to a designated head-end cloud server to retrieve customer-specific meter configurations needed to accurately program ERTs and meters in the field.
Validation
Field Tools provides the field worker and utility with the comfort and satisfaction that billing will be accurate.
Network-Attach
Field Tools enables a smooth transition of ERTs and meters from mobile to network modes, in addition to validating network attach information after an ERT or meter has associated with a network.
Itron Wireless Communications Modules
Field Tools uses the compact Itron Mobile Radio that uses Bluetooth® to connect to the Field Tools app on a variety of mobile devices. Itron radios support Wakeup and Bubble Up ERTs.

Have to delete and reinstall the the app every 2 weeks or so. When you try to authenticate it will not allow you to do so until you delete the app and reinstall. VERY FRUSTRATING!! Especially when you use the app on a daily basis and it tells you that you have not used it in 2 weeks.

As the product manager for Field Tools, of course I have to give it a five-star rating. This new app represents the realization of customer requests over the past several years to move our support onto smartphones. We have worked hard with Itron customers to build an app that is intuitive to use, easier to navigate and still performs the necessary functions needed in the field. Add to that the increased level of security customers demand these days and this new app becomes the go-to tool for use with Itron gas and water endpoints in North America. We are always interested in hearing from our customers so we can work to improve the app as it matures.
Works great
I break things when I test!
I love the security components that are inherent to the app - it makes it easy to explain and display for security audits. The button sizes and locations work excellent for one-handed operations in the field too (iPhone). I also love that functions/use are nearly identical from WIN laptop app to iOS app.
Better than FDM Tools

Even though it does not have all the electric support yet, this new app from Itron us so much easier to use than their old FDM Tools product. The fact they’ve made an app for iPhones is awesome and makes my job easier.
