What’s New

Version 3.2.18

Version 3.2 is a significant overhaul of the app's inner workings so that it can seamlessly support thousands of events and items.

To help you more easily work with multi-type timelines, items now show their icons instead of just colored dots.

To maximise your working area, the inspector is now automatically collapsed when not in use.

The example timelines now better showcase relevant features and use cases, and new starter files have been added to help you get started faster.

Version 3.2.18 contains several minor bug fixes:
- Fix issue calculating non-English initials and exporting to CSV
- Provide user-friendly error message when a Scrivener folder targeted by syncing is deleted
- Fix rare crash when syncing with Ulysses if a targeted entity folder is also marked as ignored
- Added strikethrough when printing completed items

Aeon and Setapp

I love Aeon. Love love love it. And it's only gotten better with time.

So why only three stars?

Well… I recently discovered Setapp, which is a bundled app service. Very handy, for some (like me). And Setapp offers Aeon (and Ulysses—a match made in heaven)! Cool, I thought… Instead of juggling several app subscriptions, I'll just get them for one monthly price.

So I switched to Setapp for the desktop Aeon app… Only to be told that their iPhone app isn't available thru the Setapp service. Now, I've managed other desktop–iPhone apps via Setapp (Ulysses, for example), so it's definitely possible. But for some reason, Aeon isn't interested in fully serving their Setapp subscribers.

This is a five-star app with two-star shady stuff going on with Setapp. When Aeon gets their Setapp house in order, I'll be happy to give them back the stars they've lost because of this silliness.

While Version 2 was good, this new version is a real work of art.

It is actually one of the best apps I have ever used, espcially for the price. I was using a very large, complex database (with expensive software) to accumulate historic information to be used in various research papers. This new version has so many features that I was not only able to eliminate that database but now I can see the data and all the relationships visually from several different perspectives. The earlier version was good, but not as feature-packed as this one, and therefore I still had to keep my database. Although some additional features and tweaks, albeit minor ones (some are already planned), would enhance its usability, it is a fantastic app.

Great for Novel Writing

In the writing group, I am in; everybody seems to be talking about Aeon Timeline. So I did a little research checking reviews, especially one by an anthropologist, and concluded this was for me. I used it for an hour and am in love with it. Does it have a steep learning curve-a little? If you spent a short amount of time with it and went through its tutorial, you would be good to go.
They are subscription-based. In this case, it is not a pejorative term. Pay once, and it is yours forever. If you want to upgrade after a year, it's your choice. What more can you ask.
