ran into your employee at the bikelink lockers in sf who told me to download the app. So glad I did, having the map in this app instead of needing to go on the website to see it makes such a big difference. So glad there’s an app now, and that it seems to work well! 😎

Good but needs improvement

Card should be linked. For those of us with chip cards, the app is basically useless other than to check availability. We should be able to check $$ balance and add funds to the card via the app. The technology to connect the cards is not that difficult.

Could be an angle to gain more profit, since use of the app to rent lockers likely results in more rental time than using the card (w/card it starts only when you open the door; w/card people tend to rent in advance).

Developer Response ,

Thanks for the feedback! The BikeLink card, introduced in 2003, is a stored value card (, so, by nature, the value on the card is not stored on the internet. If every BikeLink location were independently connected to the internet, then we could report the value on the card to you. Unfortunately, for legacy reasons (Gateways were released in 2017)), most BikeLink locations are not connected to the internet and 40% of facility owners have not yet opted for this service. We recommend you use the app instead of a BikeLink card if you want to see your purse value online. Note that BikeLink does not make a profit on rental fees. The sole purpose of the very low rental fee is to deter monopolization and encourage proper use of the lockers.

Can’t open door with phone

The app is great but I can’t the door to open with my phone when I want to get my bike out of the locker. I can get the door to open with no card needed to put my bike in. I had to wait 30 minutes till I had to use someone else’s phone to open the app. Called customer service and they told me to make sure my Bluetooth is o, which is was. I don’t know what’s the problem with opening the door to get my bike and end the rental.

Developer Response ,

Sorry to hear you had trouble ending your rental! Our user support agent reported that your phone had very low battery at the time. Most phones restrict Bluetooth when the phone has very low battery. This may have caused the issue. You can change this behavior in your settings. Please reach out to us at or call our office at (510) 239-7459 and we’ll be happy to figure out the issue with you. Please know that our 24/7 help center can always help you retrieve your bike right away without the app.
