The idea of this app is it helps you estimate your carbon footprint based on your lifestyle and spending habits, and rewards you seeds for making more sustainable choices, like buying from a sustainable company or second hand. They’ve rated brands based on how climate friendly and transparent they are. You can use your seeds to redeem gift cards to sustainable brands or spend them on organizations that are fighting climate change. The app is pretty polished and intuitive. The app earns money through affiliate links to different brands. I hope the app gets more popular, it’s a cool idea executed well.

Commons does a great job of making everyday spending feel more intentional without making it complicated. I really like how clearly it connects my transactions to climate impact in a way that is easy to understand and actually useful.The insights are thoughtful, not overwhelming, and the design feels calm and well considered. Instead of just showing numbers, Commons helps you pause and reflect on habits, which is what sets it apart from most finance apps.It feels purposeful, transparent, and genuinely built with care. An app I keep coming back to, not just one I download and forget.

Timely, intuitive, impactful

Thanks to Joro, I am a lot more aware of my own carbon footprint and am able to cultivate an intuitive sense for small and big actions I can take to minimize it. It is a new way of being. I am also more thoughtful about big ticket items (carbon footprint wise) and find myself making better informed choices. For me, this also helps temper anxiety that I would otherwise have (I believe climate anxiety is real and increasing over time as our planet faces harmful effects of climate change). Thank you Team Joro and keep at it! Your purpose-driven company is the change we need.

It’s a good tool for noting your spending, though I had been expecting an option to input it manually, which there is not. I don’t care about the points honestly since I’m no buy unless it’s a replacement or a necessity or something I know I will get good use out of, so shopping discounts don’t motivate me. However, if I did want the points I would be disappointed in how it’s run. This month for example is a closet clean out challenge. I was doing that anyway so I signed up, but it turns out it only counts as participating if you have brand name goods to sell through upscale consignment shops online. My stuff (that’s in good enough condition for resale) is just donated to a local second hand store. It’s nice to see the ratings for shops and it’s helpful to see the graphs about impacts. It’s nice to have the information and another way to make informed choices. I won’t be recommending the app to anyone though. It seems more designed to guide you to certain slightly upscale retailers than to truly help people better their shopping habits.

Hi, thank you so much for your feedback and being a part of the Commons community!As of right now we are only able to reward your climate actions that have a transaction associated with it but we are actively working on figuring out ways we can reward "no buy" climate actions in the future!We do already reward all public transportation, farmers markets, and secondhand purchases as well as donations to climate nonprofits.Keep up your climate journey!
