The J. J. Keller® Encompass® ELD app is the industry’s most simple, flexible and affordable driver electronic log. Formerly known as KellerMobile, this patented ELD mandate-compliant solution is used by commercial motor vehicle drivers to electronically capture hours-of-service duty status information, replacing the driver’s paper log book. The app uses a driver-friendly interface to present hours-of-service data to drivers, helping them optimize their on-duty and driving hours and reduce the risk of violations. The solution works with class 1-8 vehicles and offers many industry and state-specific HOS rulesets, accommodating exempt, non-regulated, and team drivers. The Encompass® ELD app is compliant with ELD (Part 395 Subpart B and Part 395 Appendix) rules and is listed on the FMCSA ELD registry. The Encompass® ELD app is part of the J. J. Keller® Encompass® Fleet Management System, which uses the J. J. Keller® electronic logging device and the Encompass® back office portal. HOW DOES IT WORK: Hours-of-service and telematics data is captured via a hardline adapter from the engine’s diagnostic port into the ELD hardware. The hardware continuously records and stores engine data. Data is transmitted via Bluetooth from the hardware to the Encompass® ELD application on drivers’ iPhone® or iPad® devices. Hours-of-service data and alerts are presented to the drivers in real time using compliance rulesets determined by the company. Data from the iPhone® or iPad® device is transmitted via cellular connection to the Encompass® online back office portal for hours-of-service auditing, reporting and recordkeeping. APP FEATURES: MANDATE-COMPLIANT ELD – Solution is compliant with the final FMCSA mandate. Regulatory and technology updates are delivered over-the-air and require no hardware swap outs. HOS COMPLIANCE ALERTS - App continuously checks drivers’ hours against the current DOT hours-of-service rules and company rulesets, and presents alerts to drivers of impending violations. HOS RULE SETS – App supports state and industry rulesets, including US 60/70, US and Texas Oil Field, Canadian Cycle 1 & 2, US Construction, 100 & 150 Air-Mile Exempt, and more. ROADSIDE INSPECTION MODE – Supports ELD requirements for roadside inspection protocol, including mobile display and Telematics Data Transfer method. ELECTRONIC VEHICLE INSPECTIONS (EDVIRs) – Driver-friendly interface supports pre- and post-trip inspection process, customized criteria, and photo capture of defects. MOBILE MESSAGES – Allows for the quick and efficient exchange of information between the back office and drivers. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONALITY - Supports team driving, hyrail, personal conveyance, exempt logging, border crossing, and more. FLEXIBILITY – App can be used with the J. J. Keller® Compliance Tablet™ or the driver’s own smart device. Love the jjkeller system. Been on for 1 1/2 years works great. Very rarely have any problems. Out of the 1 1/2 years been on it only went down one day, Keller had the problem fixed next day. Used paper for the one day but the next day when system was back up, the device in the truck had everything logged and stored. Just logged in and the previous days logs were ready. Great system would recommend to anyone.

DO NOT USE THIS ELD!!!!! Today alone we have been on the phone 6 times with support. First, we were told they will not help us until the app is updated. Because of issues, they update their app almost weekly. The next 5 times, they were still unable to figure out the issues and had to escalate the ticket. We’ve had to do this previously and it took over two weeks to hear back. We were told they didn’t know what was really going on. In this instance, we were told they would get to the ticket in the order it came in. This should tell you something right there when they have numerous ‘escalated tickets’. Their support team is terrible. You may get one person who knows how to use their system out of 10. I’ve contacted our account rep and again, no help. We have been a customer since ELDs we’re mandated. This last year has been nothing but issue and after issue with each ELD we have. We run over 15 power units so this isn’t just a one off situation. I’ve also suggested that maybe the ELD box is malfunctioning and asked if we could try a new one. They said sure, but that I would have to pay for it. In the end, I hope you read this review and stay away from them. This ELD is nothing but problems. We will be transitioning to a new one as soon as the devices are shipped to me.

The app itself is well designed and easily navigated. It’s fairly simple to use and straightforward. However, after two days of continuous use without any problems the application crashes. The app will load and as you are prompted to sign in, the usual notification will appear before shutting down. Once it starts crashing it will continue to do it every time I attempt to open the app until I am forced delete and reinstall. This causes a problem because any logs not submitted are deleted and lost for good. I only have this issue running the app with iOS on my iPhone 12. I first downloaded the app using Google Play on the Galaxy Note 9 and had no problems whatsoever for a year. It was not until I switched to the iPhone 12 that I started hating the Encompass app.

It’s like I had to learn a whole new operating system to do simple daily tasks. It has great difficulty pairing with the ELD device. It consistently logs me out with no warning or reason. Every day using this system I feel like I’ve technologically traveled back in time 20 years or so. The constant frustration makes me long for the days of dial-up internet and the telegraph. “Dang!” you might think, “why are you writing such a scathing review?” It’s because this app is my ticket to legal record-keeping which can personally affect my career and quality of life, and it can really let me down. I have no confidence in the JJ Keller Mobile app to support me in that regard.
