First, I will mention the subscription part because it seems like that is where a lot of people are leaving negative reviews. Yes, you do need to pay the subscription fee to see all of the functions, charts, goalsetting, widgets, etc. within the app but the creator gives you a seven day trial to see what it has before you have to pay for it. I’d also like to mention the fact that I tried to download a lot of Apple health data to generate a spreadsheet to analyze my runs and suffice to say I spent 2+ days trying to get a handle on all of the data, and in the end excel was not really able to process several gigabytes of data. This app connects directly to Apple health and gives you all of the run data and statistics that you could possibly imagine so fantastic work on the creators part. Thank you for making a wonderful app.
Splits are broken, devs unresponsive
Oswald'27
I like the idea of this app. I was really enjoying using it for a while until my new entries suddenly had broken splits. There would only be 2 splits for a run. The 1st mile and then the rest of the run would be lumped together as one big split. Completely useless data at that point. The splits are correct in the data source and correct in Apple Fitness, only in Tempo are they broken. I reached out to the devs at their published support email and got no response. I had paid for a year of premium but I cancelled after realizing the data is suspect and the devs won't troubleshoot issues. I would look very carefully before spending any money and ensure that the data is correct for your workouts.update: after tweeting at the developer I did receive a response. The developer tried hard to solve the problem but unfortunately a solution was never found. I really wish I could use this app as I quite like it, but I just can't get around this issue.
Developer Response
Hi, apologies for not responding to your email. This issue can happen when you record your workouts with an app other than the Workout app on your Apple Watch. Tempo reads the data from the Health app, but third-party apps' data could be in a non-standard format, sparse, or completely missing. The recent update (Tempo 3.9.0) made a few changes to support one of such third-party app's data (slightly) better. If you are still up for it, please give it a try. You can reach me directly on rahul@indie.sh. Thank you.
Simple and powerful

I’ve used many running apps. Since finding Tempo I rarely use the others. It has a very simple user interface and you can quickly find what you’re looking for. I love the Intensity Calendar for a quick overview of my runs. The Cumulative Graph is the perfect way to look at your weekly mileage and see your progression throughout your training cycle. The Personal Bests is fun to look through. I also like how the data is presented as you review each workout. The developer is doing a great job with this app and is constantly adding new features. I also love that I can use the default Apple Workouts app (though you can use any app that syncs with Apple Health) to record my runs as I find that the most accurate and simplest to use. The data syncs seamlessly with Tempo. Great app!
Insufficient Improvements to Warrant subscription
MrWufz
I just returned to Premium after about a year off recovering from surgery and building my stamina back up. There’s still no way: 1. to tag multiple workouts at once. 2. no duration/time on feet option for Calendar or work out views. 3. No algorithmic intensity calculation like Strava has (e.g. TSS). I’d be happy to pay more if that is the reason behind the lack of improvement. It seems like this might not be the dev’s primary job, and I’d like it to be able to be. I’ve already quit Google products, and after the Reddit fiasco and them forcing my preferred app out of business (Apollo), I refused to use products that have poor privacy and monetize data, particularly when they push social features. So Strava is out. At this point, the only thing I use in Tempi is the Cumulative Graph. If I could only have 1 thing, I wish that and the intensity calendar would show duration amounts rather than distances. I’ve switched to lower-intensity running (like Kiochoge, at 50-75% slower than my 10K pace), and had 0 injuries while being able to do increase to 6 days per week for the first time since high school. Most days, I don’t care about mileage. I care about running more, and I can do that by running slower (and therefore fewer miles). 2 days per week I do tempo, strides, or intervals, and even then I only care about pace during the fast parts, but run very slow the rest, so again, mileage is less important for me than duration. And duration allows me to compare effort instead of trying to compare results (mileage) with others.
Developer Response
Hi MrWufz, I am still working full time as an indie app developer and Tempo is the flagship product. I apologize for being slow at it (it’s been a rough past year outside work). 2/3 features you listed are top on my list. And I am not just saying that here. A lot of us want them too. I have some of the TSS foundations working—a bit early to share, but ping me and I can share what I have so far. Tagging multiple workouts is possible depending on what you are looking for—try filters on Workouts for applying tags to a set of workouts, or tap Edit Tag from Tags screen to add workouts to a tag. I am guessing there’s a different way you would like to apply tags and I would love to hear more about it. Happy to chat more over email (rahul@indie.sh).Thank you so much for your support!
- Quick fix for an issue where the Training Planner wouldn't show planned days beyond the upcoming daylight saving time change in March.
- Added app icons for Home Screen's Dark and Tinted modes.
