Description

“We believe that mindfulness is more than a form of stress relief — it can be a tool for personal growth, deeper understanding, vibrancy. More than a way to disconnect — it can be a way to feel a part of something bigger. More than simply silence — it can be immersive, beautiful, moving.”

–Raed Khawaja, Open Co-founder & CEO

CLASSES

BREATHE: Since the dawn of civilization, humans have developed techniques for manipulating our breath to induce desired states of consciousness. Now peer-reviewed studies in neuroscience and psychology confirm that breathwork is a powerful toolkit for regulating your nervous system, optimizing your health and well-being, and catalyzing personal transformation. Breathwork is an umbrella term for myriad practices, both ancient and modern. While many techniques are deeply rooted in spiritual traditions like Yoga, Qi Gong, and Buddhism, contemporary applications integrate ancient wisdom with modern science. This synthesis of ancient and modern has given rise to transformational breathwork, designed to induce profound experiences of catharsis, insight, and breakthrough. Experience a mental reset with just a few minutes of conscious breathing.

MEDITATE: Train your awareness and contemplate wisdom – with techniques that span generations, cultures, and traditions – with our daily meditations and monthly programs. Learn how to enhance your focus, reduce your stress and anxiety, and regulate your emotions with simple mindfulness techniques you can incorporate into your daily life.

MOVE: Our methodology is designed through the intelligence of fitness – blending endurance, strength, mobility, and recovery – with the wisdom of mindfulness. A ritual for resilience, strengthening the body and mind.

ANYTIME, ANYWHERE: Practice on your time with our endless library, with fresh classes added daily. From simple 5-minute breathwork techniques, to 60-minute strength and conditioning classes, build your practice to fit your schedule and meet your goals. Whether you’re starting your journey or seeking a new challenge, there are classes for every level and mood.

PROGRESS TRACKING: Create a daily habit that sticks with progress tracking, push reminders, streaks, and badges. A consistent breathwork and meditation practice has proven to reduce cortisol levels and regulate the nervous system–decreasing stress, supporting emotional well-being, and enhancing mental clarity. These techniques can also improve physical health by increasing heart rate variability, promoting cardiovascular health, and boosting immune function.

A Healing Space

Meditation and breath work have always seemed intimidating to me. I have never known what safety feels like, which is one reason why closing my eyes and being still has seemed so daunting. In addition to being diagnosed with complex PTSD, I’ve struggled with anxiety, panic attacks and many health issues my whole life. I’ve thought functioning out of survival mode was the only way to be. My normal way of living wasn’t sustainable and having my kids really woke me up to it. Finding this space has really been transformative for me. The teachers who guide the mediations are very thoughtful with their words and timing. The instructions given are easy to understand and imitate. The guided breath work has been my favorite. Learning to use my breath to clear my mind and heart has been a tool I carry with me during the day. This is the first time in my life I’ve found something to effectively calm myself down, stop destructive thought patterns and tap into the safety within myself. I leave this app with peace and sometimes it only takes 4 minutes. Open is also very user friendly with an appealing, intentional aesthetic that encourages focus. Whether you are on a healing journey or looking to improve your health I cannot recommend this app enough. If you’re on fence, enjoy the trial they offer, you won’t regret it!

better (for me) than headspace, calm, insight timer, down dog

As a millennial, my introduction to meditation was through Headspace. At the time, I loved the platform and credit it with introducing me to the power of meditation. Through the years, I’ve bounced between Headspace and other meditation/exercise apps. Open is the first app that I’ve managed to consistently use for a month without trying.

The beauty of the app is that there are multiple 2-60 minute exercises you can do that focus on breathwork, movement, or meditation. Priory to Open, I was unaware of the power of 5 minutes of targeted breathing, which is not always something meditations will include. The app’s simplicity stops me from feeling overwhelmed or distracted by the array of options. Additionally, the most of the exercises do not require more than a yoga mat and are very accessible for less fit folks like myself. I’ve yet to find as wide an array of targeted breathwork exercises on the other apps as I have on Open.

So far, Open has been my main meditation/exercise/breathwork app, and Insight Timer fills in for any other meditations I’d like to get deeper into.

O-P-E-N is a soothing balm

I discovered O-P-E-N on January 1, 2023, and it is the first meditation app that I have not only been using every day, but have looked forward to using every single day. The guided meditations are short yet impactful, the voices are soothing, the variety is appealing, and the self-guided options are an added bonus. I love the breathing practices, the opportunities to practice live, and the visual appeal of the app design. At one point, I had an issue accessing the app, so I contacted customer service, and they were responsive (in a timely manner), kind, and helpful. I also greatly appreciate that by sharing the app with others who sign up for a free month, I receive a free month in return! I could not be happier with or more grateful for this app! Thank you to creators and everyone behind the scenes who make it possible for me to have this experience every day. This is the most consistent I’ve ever been with meditation, and I can feel and see the difference that it makes in calming my nervous system, easing my anxiety, and supporting me through depressive moments. Thank you!
