If you try to enter an amex number, it doesn't complain, just pretend you're still missing a digit. Won't allow you to store a credit card until you buy your first trip, but tickets last for 90 days so it's probably not a deal breaker. Not much in terms of when to activate tickets (like, does staff need to see you do it - appears they don't).
