This seems like a cool app but why hasn’t it been updated in 2 years. Some of the similar competitors update their marine boating apps more frequently and they might be more advanced but they are not completely free like this app. Those other apps such as Argo rank higher in terms of the reviews. This app is 4.1 out of 5 stars and Argo is 4.9 out of 5 stars and then other apps such as Wavve boating is 4.7 and Savvy Navvy is also 4.7 out of 5 stars but none of those apps are completely free which I don’t like. You can get some features for free but some are not. Why would I pay for them when I can use this app (if it’s better) Now respectfully it might not be because the reviews are higher on the other apps when you view them on the App Store.
Seems like it could be a great app…lacks features

UPDATE: I really want to like and use this app, but it’s so incomplete and buggy. It only recognizes one random buoy each time I turn on the app, no matter if I click on different buoys. Can’t seem to route a course; either it won’t load the option or it’s simply not available. The NOAA overlay charts worked once and then never again. Changing the vessel picture doesn’t work (it blows up the symbols and you can’t scroll through them). It would be nice if you could save different vessel profiles, but that’s just little niche touches which don’t matter in terms of functionality. Again, there is no actual point to use a navigational boating app if it doesn’t include a depth layer. I would just use Google maps if I wanted to know where I am.ORIGINAL: You have to be grateful for those who create free apps, especially one of this caliber. This app seems like the developers have a ton of plans for the app and it has the capability, but almost every settings option says “coming summer 2021”. Well it’s august 2021 now. This app right now is geared only towards novice power boaters who are looking for a cool restaurant and and basic ground references. The NOAA raster charts aren’t even available yet, so I fail to see what good this app does. It doesn’t even include a depth layer (and not accurate when clicking on area). It really does seem like it could be the Waze of boating and a really great looking app, but with all these lacking basic features, I can’t give this app much credit. I hope to see the updates, but until then it’s useless for me.
Developer Response
HI nog, thanks for following up! The single buoy issue has been fixed in the update available next week - They're all in the correct place however via the NAVCEN api coming directly from the Coast Guard database. The depth layer has been available for several months now - are you logged in or did you skip that and are just using the basic version? Using a registered account will provide many, MANY more points of interest (45,000+) and functionality (weather, location sharing, anchor alarm, finding friends & creating groups) - Also, which device are you using and can you please reach out to info@knowwake.com with your KnowWake login/registered email when you have a chance.. We'll get over all the tutorials and schedule a quick and personalized walk-through. We're sure this will be your favorite waterway app afterwards - Hope to talk soon!
Everyone Living in South FL Should Have This

If you boat, fish, do water sports or more KnowWake is a no brainer. That’s why I downloaded this need-to-have boaters app. However, after using it a couple times I’ve realized that everyone should have it because the captain of your vessel, or your day outing, may not. I recently visited some friends in Virginia and we went boating in an area I am completely unfamiliar with, but when they asked what bar we should head to for lunch, KnowWake had the answer. On another occasion, I got up early to go fishing only to find out that my local bishop had just gone out of business and KnowWake had an alternative at 4:30 AM; right when I needed it most. Not just that, but if you live in a place like South Florida you also have the option to drive to a great restaurant or hangout spot using KnowWake. Thanks to the team at KnowWake for always having my back when I need or want any fishing or water sport related suggestions.- Happily Satisfied Customers
KnowWake just keeps getting better and better!!!

I am an avid boater. I spend a lot of time every season putting lots of miles on my hull. I have to say this app is such a great resource. It offers charts and satellite views and even AIS. It has weather and best of all they really update the locations of facilities and businesses so I know I’m getting good information. The other thing that blew my mind was how up to date the charts are. The coast guard just last month moved to very important channel markers in my area almost 75 yards due to shifting conditions. My Navionics didn’t pick it up or Garmin (which I regularly update the charts). But KnowWake had the changes almost immediately. The best part about this app is it is user friendly and intuitive. I can’t wait to watch the KnowWake community grow. Do yourself a favor download this for a way better experience on and off the water.
Minor updates and fixes to features, functions and tools. Thank you to everyone keeping the chart updated and connect anytime: info@knowwake.com
