Safeway One Touch Fuel‪™‬ 4+

This is one of those apps that has benefit almost entirely for the company and not for the user. It does provide directions to the nearest Safeway, but Google maps can do that much better. It doesn’t tell you what the prices are so you don’t know whether it’s worth a trip. And as for paying with the app rather than with a credit card, what’s the point in that? The credit card gives you lots of protections without sharing all your personal information with Albertsons / Safeway. This is one of those apps went up to a loyalty program that really has very few benefits. And then there’s the app itself, not great. Don’t waste your time.

I stopped using the Tom Thumb branded version of the app and moved over to the Safeway branded version. That fixed the issue where it would work at all. However, the app doesn’t apply the discount that it shows when activating the pump. One time, it wiped out my discount and it wasn’t applied to my purchase even though I had the button selected in the app….so I lost about $17 on that fill up!!

I spoke to an attendant and she indicated this is happening broadly and it’s even happened to her.

Please fix this issue!!….especially since it’s a known issue affecting many others!!

So, I fueled up on a Friday night and told the app to pay with Apple Pay. I preauthorized $30. The pump activated and pumped only $30.

Here is where it loses all stars. The app put a hold of $175 on my card. I checked Saturday, Sunday, and called Monday and was told it takes 3-5 business days for the hold to update. I almost had my truck payment reversed NSF if I wasn’t paying attention.

I would get a hold of $175 if I clicked “fill up” but I specifically told the app $30. I would use the app exclusively if I didn’t have to worry about holds. When I tap to pay at the pump or use my card at the pump it doesn’t put this hold on my card. Make this the same for the app (yes I know this requires a lot of work).
