Two stars for the app not the aids!
Just switched from several years with Phonak M9s.
Now have for just a few days the Signia rechargeable AX 7 aids, previous to Phonak I had Oticon so I am not new to this. Reading the user manual it devotes 2 full pages 17 & 18 to utilizing “standby mode” Oticon had this “ mute mode “ available as a button push function on the aids. It was great for example mowing the lawn or a very noisy environment for a short period you did not need the app to do it or turn off the aids. Signia spent 2 pages telling you how to do it with the app. Unfortunately there is not a “ a control” in the app for it. Contacting Signia I was told to use the app to turn the volume down to Zero! Why spend two pages describing a function that does not exist? Also the app has at the top 2 icons one for Bluetooth and one for Battery pushing either brings up the identical screen. What is the point? Were the developers going to do something else and gave up? Somehow the app feels incomplete compared to Phonak. On a positive note so far I am happy with the performance of the devices compared to the Phonaks. Love that I can now turn off phone system sounds something I could not do with Phonak and the BT connectivity is much quicker and more reliable and does not need 3 standard BT connections. Made for iPhone is 100% better and I still have completely hands free calling with Signia. Callers claim my voice is clear using the hearing aid mics.
Could be better
I have had my hearing aids for 2 weeks with zero connectivity problems to my iPhone 12 Pro. I have had several pairs of hearing aids and different apps and you can resolve connectivity issues 90 percent of the time by closing the app, restart it and wait 10 seconds. If this fails then restart your phone. You should restart your phone at least once a week but most people don’t. Check and see that you have the latest app update and phone update. The app itself has all the basics with split volume, simple tone control and directional control. New, are the mask mode button and Signia Assistant which can help you make some minor adjustments to your aids on your own. I used it, an it worked. Just don’t go crazy or you may need your Audiologist to get you back to the original program. Has an undo function if you don’t like the change. Okay, the down side. The simple tone control is too simple. You need to have 3 bands like the Resound, Phonak or 4 bands like the Starkey. You know, bass, midrange and high. I noticed Starkey has an ultra high band. Especially, when listening to music. An option would be to make the current single slider a split slider so you can control tone for each individual hearing aid. Not everyone has symmetrical hearing loss. Also, how can you not have Apple Watch support. Please add watch support. Finally. You need a find my hearing aid gps function.
App is inconsistent
I’ve just switched from Oticon Open 2 Aids to your Pure C&G AX7s and so far I’m warming up to the aids. However, your app is inconsistent. I liked the online help feature and actually got some good help there but now I can’t access the online help feature as it seems to have disappeared. Also, now my ability to control each aid separately has also disappeared. Also, apparently the aids easily disconnect inadvertently from Bluetooth when the phone is rebooted.
I’ve been wearing hearing aids since 2010 always top of the line Oticon until now and frankly I’m interested in switching because Oticon’s support for their app apparently became sketchy there at the end also. Please don’t underestimate how important Bluetooth connectivity and a well functioning easy to configure app plays into many purchase decisions.
I’m still in my trial phase and I’m considering going back to Oticon because of your app and connectivity and adjustment issues. The aids are decent and provide an apparently quality hearing experience but I’m thinking for sure now I wanna take another look at Oticon before I decide. That probably wouldn’t have happened with a quality and consistent experience with your app as I do see tremendous potential for your aids but at this point I’m concerned.
