Tax Caddy, I was skeptical at first
My accountant emailed the request to download the mobile app for TaxCaddy to help me organize my taxes on time to file April 15. I was skeptical at first, but after using it just a few times, and for a few hours I found it immensely helpful, easy to learn, and apparently, quite confidential and encrypted. I’m not the greatest record keeper, but with prompts from prior tax years, all the necessary documents were requested and uploaded for my account to use. I’d say five thumbs up.

Modern Day Time Saver for ALL
This is my first year using the Tax Caddy app and it’s innovation at it’s finest for the tax industry! I’ve worked in tax and can appreciate the time saved by avoiding paperwork and having to coordinate, scan and save tax documents. Coordination of tax documents is streamlined, which brings so much value to the practice. I must say, I believe that the app is geared more toward the more modern day app-savvy customer in that you can take pictures or upload your tax documents easily, and having a pre-set document checklist better simplified the process. A general questionnaire, which is part of the normal industry practice, can fill in any holes one would believe would be caused by a program so slick. Plus, there is a feature that allows you to communicate with your tax preparer at any time during the preparation time of your tax return! The face-to-face aspect of interaction is not present, but with having an extremely busy lifestyle, with a million things on my plate, I can really appreciate that I can come and go into the app as I have time, and can deliver my documents without having to drive to the CPA firm or to the post office, on my time. One thing that I would like to see different is to have more notification from the app to get myself wrapped up with everything more quickly. Overall, this app is awesome and would recommend!!
Off to a Bad Start
My introduction to TaxCaddy was to fill out an on-line questionnaire on changes in the past year. Retirement. Should be easy. 62 questions, but many of them involve technical legal retirement program terms. Part way through, I wanted to save partial completion to check something (I could as easily have wanted to pause for dinner and complete it later); but there was no apparent way to partially save (and you cannot leave any question unanswered). The App was locked in the questionnaire until completion. Couple that apparent flaw with the statement at the end of it that once you “submit” your answers you can never change them. What if I made a mistake (or got new information) and wanted to revise an answer? Too bad, your error will be forever reflected in your tax return? Next, one of the “Questions” was a directive that if you have not already linked your bank account to this App, insert your account information here (or better yet upload a photo of a check). That’s an audacious assumption that I’d want to link my bank account to this App, especially at this awkward introductory part of getting used to the App. What additional irritating things await? If I wanted a do-it-yourself tax return, I’d buy TurboTax. I don’t like this.

Hello. Thank you for the detailed comments. The number of questions is controlled by your tax professional, not TaxCaddy. The TaxCaddy questionnaire does not need to completed all at once and it saves progress automatically so you can resume at any point. It sounds like your tax professional included a fillable PDF questionnaire. The TaxCaddy questionnaire should provide a better user experience. If you "made a mistake" your tax professional can always reset the questionnaire for you. Regarding the account linking, TaxCaddy's Smart Links feature is optional. We suggest people use the feature because it can save time but you're not required to use it.
