What’s New

Version 5.0.2

OPEN RUN SUPPORT
Everyone runs at a unique pace. While the program aims for continuous running for 30 minutes, not everyone can achieve a 5K within this time and may miss out on achievements like the 5K distance milestone. Open Run lets you run at your preferred pace without time or distance constraints. Whether it's 3K, 5K, 40 minutes, or more, the choice is yours!

KILOMETRE SPLITS
As you advance in the plan and transition to continuous running without walk breaks, the Watch to 5K iPhone companion app will display Splits. This feature helps you track your progress and analyse performance more effectively.

Kilometre Splits will show for all Open Runs.

AUDIO IMPROVEMENTS
Watch to 5K seamlessly integrates with your favourite music player or podcast app. In version 5, the app will now temporarily pause spoken audio from podcasts or audiobooks while providing prompts, instead of simply lowering the audio as before. Music apps will still be lowered, not paused.
During Open runs, the virtual coach updates you on your progress at each kilometre, keeping you informed on your total run time, distance, and average pace.

You can also double-tap the screen to hear your current progress.

OTHER ENHANCEMENTS
• Satellite share images are now higher quality.
• Route lines have been refined to reduce sharp corners in specific instances.
• Improved accuracy of stats in the segment breakdown within the iPhone companion app, addressing minor inaccuracies caused by pauses during runs.
• Average heart rate is now included in the Run Details section of the iPhone app.
• Fixed an issue where runs could mistakenly be marked as complete after ending a run early.
• Fixed an issue where the iPhone companion app could report incorrect segment durations if a run had been paused.

Does exactly what it says it’s going to and works

I generally don’t write reviews but I kinda had to for this app. I’ve run pretty seriously before so I’m familiar with how you can set intervals inside the Apple workout app on your watch. The thing is, everything on this app you can basically do yourself or cobble together from a couple different apps for free. And it’s kinda fiddly and doesn’t always work how you want it to, and for couch 2 5k you would have to make a decent amount of pre-sets. So this app is just nice, pay a reasonable price once, and get a solid native watch project that lets you skip the head ache. I still encourage people to figure out how to set intervals for themselves in the mean time. It’s good not to feel like you Have to pay for stuff like this and to have the freedom to set up custom workouts. But when your picking up running again, it’s really easy for small speed bumps to stall you. And having just like the first month or 2 of training totally preset can smooth the way

Exactly what I’ve been looking for

This app is everything I’ve been looking for. I’ve completed the program a few times (!) using different apps and none of them come close to this one (including the one from Active). This is a native Watch app, as opposed to an afterthought for a phone app, and it shows. No fluff, everything that you need and nothing that you don’t.
I hate running with my phone. With this app, I can just leave it in my car and go. No setup, no fiddling for 5 minutes. No endless confusing settings. It just starts, and it just works. The prompts are clear as day and to the point, the voice is not annoying (I do appreciate the GB accent!). Integration with the Music app and my bluetooth headset is flawless.
Lastly, the Watch screens are great. Easy to read, and again, to the point.
Integration with the Health app just works. I really like that it logs separate workouts for warmup/run/cooldown. But maybe that should be an option.

I’m in week 3 and haven’t found a bug yet.

The only improvement I’d ask for would be to be able to see the workout details before doing them.

Oh, and a Watch to 10k app :)

There’s nothing like putting on your running shoes and just going out with nothing but your car keys in your pocket.

Thank you. I would have gladly paid more.

Developer Response ,

Thanks for the positive review. I’m glad you are enjoying the app.

In the Watch app, you can see the workout details before you start the run. Select a run from the list, then scroll down on the run details screen to see all the run and walk segments. We plan to add this functionality to the phone app in the future too.

Good luck with the running!

A really well-designed app

So far I’m not impressed with a lot of apps for the Apple Watch. I bought the Watch with cellular connectivity specifically so I could go exercise without my phone. Other exercise apps seem to really want you to either bring your phone with you when you run, or require all sorts of options and configuration. All I wanted was an app that told me when to run, told me when to walk, integrated with Apple Fitness, and worked reliably. This app is it! It works great! I love that it logs the warmups, cool-downs, and runs as distinct workouts, so Apple Fitness knows to report something as a walk and not a run, etc. The display is intuitive and informative. The interface is dead simple. tl;dr: it just works, and it works well

Thanks for taking the time to leave a positive review. Good luck with reaching your first 5K!
