Need to alleviate stress? Live in a crazy busy city and want a mini vacation for your mind? Baby fussy and crying? Experiencing anxiety and have found certain sounds calm you down? Use this natural sound app.
I’m from the Caribbean living in Upstate NY and miss the sounds of my island. I was blessed to find someone had taken the time to record the sounds of one of our beaches using this app’s Record Sound feature. Now I can listen to sounds from my home and be comforted somewhat. I battle depression and anxiety as a result of my physical disabilities and have been using light and sound therapy to manage trying periods. During winter up here I sometimes choose to listen to sounds of summer: crickets and frogs, etc. You can create your own sound mix by combining those you like and adjusting them according to distance, pitch, speed, volume to make your sound environment truly unique. I’m glad I discovered TM Soft sounds. Also, they offer a 99¢ a month subscription for the Premium level. I personally feel it’s so worth investing in self-care so I signed up for it. Give the hundreds of sounds made by TM Soft and the subscribers who add to their cool recorded sounds a try. I’m not in any way related to the company or anything. I just really enjoy it.
Great but could use a few improvements
The White Noise app has quickly become my most used, especially while working from home, so being able to add some other sounds that keep my mind relaxed and focused has been tremendous! I have three suggestions that I think would really improve the overall user experience: (1) Add a feature to sort by most downloads, or add a ‘Top Charts’ list so it’s easy to find the crowd favorites. The UI is very large and bulky, making it time consuming to scroll past each sound to check the name and download count, before even previewing the actual sound. (2) Building off of the first point, make the listings smaller than what they are, which currently takes up nearly the entire space of your iPhone or iPad. You can never see more than two full sound listings at one time, I find myself ready to get off of the White Noise Market as fast as I can because it’s so unwieldy. (3) This may be a remark better left for the main White Noise app, but sync the added sounds across all devices logged into the same account would be helpful. The workaround is to make sure you ‘favorite’ the sounds you’re downloading on one device so you can easily go to your favorites on another devices and download them there again. Not a huge hurdle, but just a relatively small time saver.
Been using it for a decade
I had the White Noise app and White Noise Market app since the iPhone 4. It has remained the same mostly and it is very simple and doesn’t take up a lot of RAM or storage space (unless you download a lot of sounds). Though I wish there was an option to upload sounds instead of recording a sound from the app.
