Yelp is not reliable any more.

Yelp is not reliable any more. I used multiple businesses that had high ratings, and the experience was poor. This happened repeatedly in the last 3 years. It used to be good. Now they only promote their paying customers, and prob with robo accounts like Twittxx does. I also noticed that if I left these paying businesses bad reviews, I would get hit with multiple policy “violations”. After using one of their advertised businesses, and having a horrible experience, and then writing a bad review on Yelp, they closed my account along with a message they sent to my email account which sounded pretty dictator-ish “when we closed accounts, we don’t give explanations”. I actually enjoy using Google a lot better now, and have for a while. Yelp is def the new MySpace, something if there past that no longer is. I highly recommend not to use Yelp and save yourself the disillusions.

La Dolce Vita —-Nyack, NY —Incompetent

I lived in Nyack for 20 + years and know the restaurant scene there quite well, but I haven’t been there for about fourteen years. I visited early this month (May 2024) and stayed with some friends for one night. I wanted to take them out to dinner and I trust their taste and knowledge of food. When I found out we were going to a “seafood” restaurant called La Dolce Vita that is where O.D.s was, I was excited, because I now live nowhere near the coast and crave fresh well cooked seafood.
I ordered the Bouillabaisse even though I thought the price was pretty high—$38!
It was possibly the worst seafood I’ve had since Howard Johnson’s “Clam Strips” way back in the day.
The Bouillabaisse indeed had a fair amount of seafood in it—clams, mussels, calamari, sea scallops etc and kind of LOOKED good. It was absolutely tasteless!! None of the seafood tasted of the sea or of what they were! The broth tasted like what I imagine bath water would taste like. NOTHING had any flavor. At all!! I should have sent it back immediately but I did not want to embarrass my friends.
Admittedly this was the ONLY time I have ever dined there. But I couldn’t believe this was something that the restaurant thought was worthy to be served. And it bills itself as a seafood restaurant. No. No. No. No.
