Manage your money easily and invest in your life goals with the free 22seven app from Old Mutual.
Here’s how it works:
#1 - See all your money in one place.
All your accounts. All your transactions. All together. Link bank accounts, credit and store cards, investments, loans and rewards from over 100 South African financial institutions.
#2 - Set budgets and we’ll help you stick to them.
See exactly how much you spend on what each month. Know what you‘ve already spent and have left to spend, and find more money. Activate spending alerts and we’ll let you know when you’re getting close to reaching your budget.
#3 - Find relevant insights, regularly.
Nudges are hints and observations about your money. See things you didn’t know or hadn’t considered, and use your money better.
#4 - Invest in your life goals and reach them sooner.
Putting money towards your future can be a pain. But the right planning can change that. Set, track and invest in your life goals, tax free, from as little as R250.
#5 - We take security very seriously.
Most importantly, 22seven is safe, secure, private and insured. We use the best security - the same measures as banks, governments and the military. The information you share is always encrypted and never seen by human eyes. Your info remains yours - always. So we won’t sell your data to third parties. That’s why over 220 000 South Africans use 22seven to boss their money.

22seven (sometimes referred to as 227) is South Africa’s best budgeting app. We support over 100 South African financial institutions. This includes all major banks like ABSA, Capitec, FNB, Nedbank, Standard Bank, TymeBank and more. The app is backed by Old Mutual - one of South Africa’s most trusted financial institutions.
The app lets you:
#1 - View all your balances and transactions in one place so you can track them easily.
Once you link your accounts from over 100 South African companies, you’ll get to see all your money in one place for the first time. The app automatically sorts all your transactions into categories for you, like Groceries, Eating Out & Takeouts, Rent and more. So you can track exactly where you’re spending and find new ways to save.
#2 - Create a budget to effectively manage your spending.
The app will create a budget for you based on your real, average spend. But if you want to challenge yourself to spend less, setting your own budget is easy. And when you’re done, activate spending alerts so we can let you know when you reach 50%, 80% and 100% of your budget so you don’t overspend.
#3 - See how much you can safely spend each day.
Every day, 22seven will let you know how much you can safely spend while still sticking to your monthly budget. As you use the app, you’ll start to receive other ‘Nudges’ - little bits of information about how you’re spending and how your behaviour compares to other 22seven customers.
#4 - Invest in your life goals so you can reach them sooner.
Saving money in your bank account or a fixed deposit account may be familiar. But investing can be so much better. Create your life goals in 22seven and invest in them so you can reach them sooner. You’re able to choose from 4 Old Mutual unit trust investment funds, where you can safely store your money and track how it grows.
Here are some other features:
#1 - No more separate statements or slips.
Your income and expense transactions are gathered and updated whenever you log in. You can also add notes, visualise or export your spending data at any time.
#2 - Doing your tax return is made so much easier.
All your income and expenses are categorised and exportable to Excel. So you can also use your transactions in 22seven to rock your tax return. And get a 25% discount with TaxTim.
#3 - Get really good support from real, live people.
Our support team, the Svens, are on hand to answer your questions from 8am to 8pm every day of the week. Via email, live chat or phone.
- The banner on your Accounts screen that lets you know your linked accounts are safe will now only display once after each login to 22seven, then disappear.
- We've fixed a pesky bug that prevented scrolling back past January 2020 on the Budget screen. Our bad!
- A couple of other minor bug fixes and improvements, as usual.

Must Have App
I downloaded 22seven over 2 years ago, I was skeptical of using it for a while until I did my further research to check the credibility of the application. Then I decided to give it a shot and I must say, it has made a huge difference in my financial spending, I always know how much I have for which spending group. I can now track my eating outs with ease, I know exactly my travelling cost per month, I know what to expect from my banking charges, it is wonderful and I'm loving it so much! Thank you to the 22Seven team for changing my financial life to a healthier one. 22Seven is in my top 5 daily used apps. Great work to everyone!
Developer Response ,
Thanks for your awesome review! We're so glad to hear 22seven has become such a big part of your daily routine. Well done for truly bossing your money ;)
Becoming very disillusioned
I've used this app from the very beginning and it has been very good, but unfortunately since Old Mutual have taken over problems are taking longer and longer to resolve. I've had problems logged for months and apart from the pleasant support staff who send a form mail every month or so, nothing is done to fix the problems. So disappointing.
I appreciate the open and honest response from the developers and believe that my issues will be fixed shortly. I still use the app daily and find it excellent in the way it allows me to manage my financial life. I would be lost without it.

Hi Peter. We're sorry to hear you feel that way. 22seven was acquired by Old Mutual back in 2013. This enabled us to continue providing the service, to stop charging a subscription fee, to launch the app on more platforms and expand on 22seven’s feature set significantly. We've taken a look and the issue you appear to be referring to is the app freezing when trying to search for transactions. This is, unfortunately, a particularly tricky issue to fix and is related to the high volume of transactions on your profile. As time goes by and more transactions are added to our database each month, the technologies we used when the app was first built start to become less suitable for present-day 22seven. As a result, in order to rectify bugs such as this, we may need to replace legacy technologies or spend some time reworking them so they’re better able to handle current use cases. Our iOS team have very much been hard at work on this and we're in the process of testing this fix now. We weren't able to find any other issues that have been outstanding for months, but our iOS team is also investigating the issue related to balances not immediately updating, which you reported started happening after our previous app version was released in June. As always, we'll be sure to keep you posted and hope to have a long term solution to your transaction issue soon :)
Seemed good....then I tried to use it.
I downloaded the app because I wanted to track my exact spending in order to save for a big future spend. First, linking my account was impossible without contacting support. 7 hours later, accounts were linked - success! Until I tried to set my goals.....Although you can set goals, it is so disappointing that the app only gives you the option to track goals if you are investing into Old Mutual accounts.
Why is depositing money into another account not an option? Not even a manual option where you tick a box if you met your monthly goal???

Hi Charlize. The current version of Goals is in beta. We're starting work on improvements to Goals soon. These will allow you to track your goals against any of your linked accounts. Keep an eye out for our newsletter and social media posts announcing these changes when they're ready!
Up to six family members will be able to use this app with Family Sharing enabled.
