It’s a great app, my biggest problem is the card readers regularly do not connect. Which is very poor customer service for us because we have to manually enter our customers debit cards, which takes time. This slows down our efficiency. The app also takes a fee for manually entering card information. The return policy for defective card readers is no returns. Overall, the cost for the deficiency in this app is very high.
Developer Response
Hi there! The card reader disconnection issue that you mentioned is definitely not expected behaviour. Please reach out to our Support Team via shopify.com/contact so that we can assist you with advanced troubleshooting steps, and look into issuing a replacement reader if need be (as our card readers are eligible for warranty replacement).
Old users credentials are permanently stored

We are having a user caching issue. The first user to ever log into this app seems to be stuck. We went as far as formatting the entire iPad and again on a fresh new install (no log in credentials were) asked. After installing the app it went strait to the pin screen where only the pin for the first user works. It’s like something with the iCloud user name possibly is stuck caching those credentials. Logging out and in with another user only works for a minute or two where they are auto logged out (it requires your pin only) and again. Only the initial first user who logged in pin will work. Even though they were logged out. Or in our case on a clean fresh install haven never logged in and have absolutely no passwords or credentials saved anywhere. So I’m totally confused how you can even log in without needing credentials is pretty scary and needs to be patched immediately!I’ve submitted a ticked for this issue with support as well but it doesn’t look like anything is progressing with that.

Hello Colvy, thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We hope you were able to get this sorted out in the ticket with support. However, if the POS is no longer giving you the log in page, even after you logged out we recommend checking for any updates on the app and/or reset it: Go to iPad Settings> Scroll down until you find Shopify POS. Tap in >You'll see "Reset Account" >Tap in >There'll be a toggle that you can tap to reset all the app data + current logged in user >Tap the toggle >[Force close the POS app](https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT201330) + reopen. We always recommend reaching out to our Retail support, so this way they can investigate into this for you.
No support and will hold funds
Katmyosko
I really enjoyed Shopify at first! My employee and I spent DAYS integrating our inventory and creating labels. Sales were going great, as well… But then BAM! Out of nowhere, there was a “pause” on my payouts. They didn’t even send me an email requesting any information or an explanation of why until I reached out to customer support via chat and then I finally found a phone number to contact them. I submitted all necessary documents within 24 hours of receiving said email. Then on the following Tuesday, I received an email stating that my store had been “terminated” and now I have to wait “120 days” for payouts, even though I have made it very clear verbally, via email, and via “appeal” since that was my only option that I have zero business to continue to do business with a company that will hold funds with no warning and then terminate my store and all of my hard work. I will continue to blast this experience on every platform possible as they are currently holding over $3k in funds. USER BEWARE
Terrible Card Reader /Policy
LizaolaV
We are on #5, that’s right, FIFTH card reader. Shopify itself is a great tool, but their card readers are awful. Doesn’t matter which model (we’ve bought multiple) they are constantly disconnecting or worse giving the “red light of doom” error. We’ve checked our wifi, updated our systems, and are ULTRA careful about not moving our reader just in case. Haven’t had reader issues with other companies thus far. Be prepared to drop $$$$ for card readers, and if they simply stop working- don’t expect Shopify to help or offer a reimbursement. As a previous user stated, we have to constantly manual enter credit cards. We lose out on sales, especially if folks don’t carry their physical cards on them and expect to pay via tap. Everything else seems to work great.
Developer Response
Hello LizaolaV, thank you for your feedback. We take all customer feedback seriously and are committed to providing our customers with the best possible experience. Please know that we are constantly working to improve our card readers and provide our customers with the best possible experience. You mentioned "red light of doom", this seems to be a tamper state and can happen in order to protect the reader from fraudulent activity. Some accidents or actions can cause the reader to believe someone is trying to "tamper" with the system, for instance by installing a "skimmer" to the device to steal your customer's credit card information. Over-thick cards can also cause the tamper state.
• Staff can now create orders for same-store pickup directly from the POS cart, and those orders connect to your buy online, pickup in store flow and customer notifications.
• We added Tap to Pay for merchants with multiple legal entities so you can accept contactless payments across all of them.
• We updated cash management with register-based sessions, native cash tracking, reason-coded adjustments, and new tools for automating custom workflows.
• We enabled cashing out gift cards under $15 where permitted in parts of the US and Canada.
• We added the ability to reprint past receipts for sales, returns, and exchanges exactly as they were first printed.
• Merchants in France must now install and activate the Comply app before processing any transaction to meet NF525 rules.
• We updated POS receipts for merchants in France and Spain so printed receipts show itemized VAT rates and a full VAT summary table by default.
• We updated product search to suggest words as you type. This is in limited release for select merchants.
• We added support for Epson TM-T88 IV through VII receipt printers through POS Hub or over your network.
• We updated the POS Terminal so it can authorize card payments with the processor when POS is in offline checkout mode.
