Connectivity Problem

Though I love the Dyson Fan product the app itself disappoints me. I tried connecting my dyson fan through the app and went through every step, (no I didn’t misread or missed any steps in the process of connecting it to the app, especially me being a above average tech guy). Apparently, (I assume is the problem), is that I can’t connect the device to the app because I need a 2.4ghz WiFi connection to connect the devices. What?! I’m sorry that I have a 100+ mbps download/ 20+ mbps upload speed internet. I have two WiFi connection making it a 5ghz band network. But I don’t get why the WiFi is the problem to me connecting it to the app? Luckily, I only want my fan on when I’m home anyways so I don’t need the app really. But I would like to access the full feature of the product especially for the price I paid it for.

TL;DR (summary):
Can’t connect to device because I have 5ghz wifi. I agree with everyone that with dyson gain in profit from the purchases of the said devices, you would think they invest in improving the app, and device connectivity. Disappointed is all I’m feeling but I do not regret buying the fan because it’s something I need and will improve my home. No I don’t want to have to call customer support and any tech support. Just please solve the people’s needs.

Developer Response ,

Hello, 2.4GHz was a restriction in our first generation of connected products. Our newest range or Purifiers will connect to a 5GHz network. Thanks, Lyndsey - Dyson Connected Team

Decent app...

First off the App always connects and works. There is some lag but nothing unreasonable for a purifier. My main things I’d like to see improved is the app can’t seem to reset one of my units filter life. I’ve tried in multiple devices, reinstalled the app, restarted my devices, updated to the latest iOS but still it can’t be reset. Annoying but live-able. Next I have two non connected purifiers it'd be nice to have a separate screen that could at least track a date of last change to remind me to replace those machines as well, maybe even ask a few usage questions to approximate the filters life (as those units aren’t used very often I don’t want to waste filters). Also if the app could show the devices in the colors they actually are would be a nice finishing touch. *I’d appreciate if someone could reach out to resolve the filter life issue, thanks in advance Dyson.

Hello RenesisR3, thank you for leaving us a review, we are happy to hear that you are connected and enjoying our app and product.

When replacing the filter you need to press and hold a button on your remote. This is slightly different depending on what product you own but information on this can be found in the settings menu under 'Using your machine' section.

As for the non-connected purifiers, as the time allowed for each purifier will be different unfortunately we would not be able to track those filters too.

Thank you for your feedback on our app and we will pass your comments on to our developers around your final point.

Does not work as advertised

The wifi connectivity connects, however, if i leave the home or my phone disconnects from the wifi I no longer am able to connect to the machine. This indicates false advertising is out there. They say your supposed to be able to connect to the machine when your at work, or away from home, etc. This is not true.

The sensor on the machine or the software has an issue, not sure which, because the fan speed on auto keeps going up and down, however, the stats on the app stay constant. Fan speed goes up an down within a matter of seconds like its confused, very weird. If this gives me too many issues going forward (had it for a week) I wont be buying from dyson again.

Already had three other machines with defects, #1 stopped working properly after a while (pure hot cool no link) #2 Came out of the box not working at all and I had lots of trouble returning to dyson (pure cool link desk) #3 overheated (pure cool tower not a link device) #4 is this one (pure cool link tower) which i decided to try link since i really didn't get to before and I am highly disappointed. Quality control does not seem to be there for such a pricey item. Oh well was hoping it would work. The poor development of the app mixed with too many hardware issues makes this a no go for me.

Developer Response ,

Hi 50dots, the app should work outside of your home Wi-Fi, as long as you have an internet connection via 3/4G or another Wi-Fi network. If this is not the case then we'd like to hear from you to investigate this issue for you, please email us on The purifier when set to 'auto-mode' will change fan speed depending on the air quality of the room, to meet the target air quality, you should see this change over time on the app's air quality graphs. If you want a constant speed you can set the fan speed manually. Hope this helps, Craig - Dyson Connected Team.
